Hi.

I got a server from LayeredTech.com. Everything went smooth. However, I started noticing the server goes down a lot during the day. I emailed the support and they were working on it.

After many attempts and configuration changes, they suggested doing a reload. I agreed on doing that.

After waiting for few hours, the reload was done, but the problem still persists if not worse!!!!!!!..

What can I do?

What would be the problem?

My server is 2.8Gh , 1GB RAM, 80GB hard disk
cpanel is installed,
even with no clients the server still has this problem,
the load is almost always 0 however, the mem usage is arround 20%.
the server doesn't restart or anything, it just hungs, in fact, the network hungs not the server, then after waiting for less than a minute, it just comes back..I also notived that imap and eximstats always fail when this problem occurs.

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I't hard to tell with the little information you've provided, but have you configured your network settings properly.

It seems to me that, your server is dhcp'ing, but can't get its settings.

Your providers should give you a hand with this.

Firstly check its not the actualy network that is dieing rather than something on your local server.

Might be worth checking hardware out, or even a hardware swap (if they restored it and this is still occuring even on a fresh install).

I would say it is over heating and crashing. Proper case cooling plays a major role in keeping a server up.

We have had problem with our server too when it was on RH, then works flawlessly with FreeBSD (but its more job running cPanel on FreeBSD).

Maybe its OS issue.

thank you for ur replies.

below are more information that might help.
the OS is freebsd,
I don't the server dies when it freezes, it is the network. I realize that by running some backup work that took some time, even if the server froze, the backup job is completed,so, if the it was an internal problem in the server, then that backup work would seize. Also, nothing gets restarted except imap and eximstats and maybe exim.

Regarding the location of the server, it is managed by Layeredtech. I would assume they do that :) .

finally, what specific network settings I can post here that might help in identifying the problem..

thanks again.
