Listen to that first sound on that site..... sounds like something charging up? or something else? After hearing this sound, I knew I heard it somewhere else, so after a little bit of research asking a few friends and testing a few things. I found where it came from. This sound was taken from a game called "Starcraft" a popular strategy game made by www.blizzard.com (http://www.blizzard.com). Over 30,000 people play this game on a network called battle.net (http://www.battle.net). The sound was taken from a unit called "The Battle Cruiser", it has a powerful tool to damage buildings and before it shoots, it charges up.
So, what do you think of PixelBrick now?

Designers with too much time on their hands...
:stickout

The sound is probably copyrighted by whomever created Starcraft.
OverSkilled 12-30-2001, 03:50 AM As good designers they are they should be able to use their own sound effects rather than copying others.
SI-Chris 12-30-2001, 04:35 AM Could be off a royalty-free sound effects disc... you never know.
hayes 12-30-2001, 04:39 AM good point!
OverSkilled 12-30-2001, 04:49 AM I compared them both about 10-20 times and saw hardly no difference. If it was royalty free should a company like that be using free stuff?
Superior-IS 12-30-2001, 05:46 AM Yhea! What was Blizzard thinking! ;)

Of course they should, what kind of comment is that ?
I worked in the 3D industry for over 6 years, we used all sorts of royalty free objects and textures in our projects, it's the nature of the business, you buy those CD's to help you get the project done faster
I am sorry, but your post has absolutely no grounds except to bash somebody (pixelbrick)
TimPD 12-31-2001, 12:24 AM I think they're really good but VERY high. So that is about all I can say.
NetXL 12-31-2001, 12:27 AM I don't really think it matters, it's a sound. By the looks of it, most likely a stock sound, because i'm sure a large company like Pixel Brick wouldn't put its reputation on the line by using a stolen sound on their website. I could be wrong, but it's just what I think.
I mean, you know that kids laugh you hear, the one that Microsoft used on their sampler disk, or in Creative Writer or something? 'hehehehe-huhu haha!' or something. I've heard that laugh over and over. TV ads etc, i'm assuming thats a stock sound, and MS used it, so?...

most good/bad companies will use free stuff before paying.
Well any company that wants to make a profit that is

You (saw?) heard *hardly* any difference? So what you are saying is the sounds are close, but not the same?
Should they hire a crew to create a 3 second sound or use one off a disc?
What do I think of designers who start threads about other design firms without knowing what they are talking about, or having any basis for what they are accusing them of? Not much, but that didn't answer your question.
Please email them directly about this. Thread closed.
