View Full Version : Nameservers question

Hi, all!

Just a really quick, possibly silly question:

I'm considering moving resellers to MCHost, who I believe provide virtual nameservers as part of their plans.

If I change the IPs of the nameservers to the new ones provided by MCHost (or whomever) does that mean that when the new IPs start resolving my clients won't have to do anything DNS-wise?

Assuming, of course, that they've already set up their nameservers to mine, and that the nameserver names don't change in the switch... and that I've already set their domains up on the new server.

Just wondering. If my assumption isn't true I may hold off as I don't want to put my clients through another dose of NSI hell.

Thanks!
Neil

If your clients' registrar doesn't ask them to update the IPs, only the nameservers (ie ns1 and ns2.domain.com), they don't need to change anything. If they require the IPs, they will need to change the IPs for their domain(s) at the registrar. :)
