I'm pretty sure they also bill bandwidth via the 95th percentile method. That makes it difficult to compare their pricing to other companies that just bill for the actual transfer that was used such as Ev1 and the planet.

i noticed the un-professionalism but it is just that for the money i would be getting a dedicated server.... i think i might e-mail them ect.

$35/month for a dedicated server? That doesn't even cover the bandwidth.

Like other may have said....
please be aware that the max you get is what you pay for...
but sometimes you may not even get what you pay for.

like serverunion said :-
My little sister designed that site and the deadbeat never paid. :D
Now, I dont know if that's a jk or a serious statement (because of the :D at the end). But if its serious, how can you believe this giuy...& what would make you think that he's gonna give you 2 months of service after you give him your design...
anyway. good luck! (people need luck with offers like this. atleast i know that i do)

i have talked to the dude directly and it seems honest, he uses pay pal too, i amtrying to get him to give me like 2 months free if i design him a site....

Well it looks really honest to me as well, right until I get to the final pricing. You do realize that this guy is either ripping you off, or is loosing a ton of money? The datacenter space alone costs him more than $20, not to mention bandwidth, support, etc.

Please Please Please think this through a little more, and listen to everyone in this thread. I will personally be extremely upset if in two weeks you come back here complaining about how your server is *never* online.

Good luck, you'll need it.

Took about 15 seconds for that crappy page to load on my 2MB dsl line, If their site takes that long for such a small page now slow will your services to our clients be.

A Good rule of thumb is - Its its too good to be true it probably is. (as already said above)

And another one I like - Quality is not cheap and cheap is not quality.

Edit for spelling.

Did anyone get a server from these guys yet? I went ahead and ordered one, I know you get what you pay for, I was just looking for a good box to do test installs and things like that without having to worry about breaking a box with sites on it. I don't need 99% uptime for it. I signed up six days ago or so. Their email said setup takes 6-48 hours but no server yet. Just seeing if anyone else ordered and had one setup. Thanks.

Hardly. I still have my original Celeron 1.3ghz from Ev1 that's costing me $116/month (now used for personal sites). I'd never expect a 1.2ghz for $25/$35.

I wpuldnt recommend that what so over.... For cheap dedicated servers, go to www.serverpronto.com .... they start at $30.00 ... however, just as with anything in life, you get what you pay for.

Amdac
08-11-2004, 08:58 PM
That's a better server for the same price, which just increases my doubts about the company and quality. A decent dedicated server should run you $200+ per month, not a rediculous price like $30.

Thinking logically, the cheapest cPanel license they would be able to get is $20 or so. So even at regular price, after the free cpanel license, they are making $15/month on the server...Even if it's a $200 server, it'll take them over a year to pay off the hardware alone, not to mention the bandwidth and other expenses :)

Hostaholic, if you'd like to be regarded by your brain not age, don't make statements like this. If $50 is legit, then over 30% less must be also? Mr. Spock says, "Illogical."

Looks like a too good to be true. You may get it at that price, but how is their support. There is no 800 number listed, there actually is not a telephone number listed at all. They also state that tech support is provided by email and they have staff on duty for a whole "20" hours out of the day, I thought there were 24 hours in a day though! I would pay a little more money for better support and piece of mind. I recommend ServerMatrix.

So, is host4you sentris? Or what? If host4you is a reseller of sentris, as I've seen claimed on WHT, what gives with that chat handle?

Search sentris/tophosting/jovita here on WHT. You'll be up all night! ;)

Just an update to my previous post...

I did finally get my server from host4you. It's a full server, not a VPS as far as I can tell. I would never put accounts on this server, I got it just for testing. I always wanted a server in a DC just to use for different types of installs and stuff like that that I would not want to risk on a box with sites, but don't want/need a Pentium 4 server at $80-$120 a month for this. This place would not be good to host real sites- they charge $90.00 an hour to fix problems and they say that any server that is DOS'd will automatically be cancelled so therefore, according to them, customers SHOULD NOT do things that invite DOS attacks. Kind of a strange statement, as if DOS attacks only happen to server admins who send out handwritten invitations. In any event, Im not too worried, if I break the box with a bad install and can't fix it myself, I will just cancel the server, same if I get DOS'd.

I read many things regarding the parent company. $600 surprise charges for bandwidth overages and such are serious warning flags. Whether host4you does this or not, well - like I mentioned above, I'm not sure they aren't the parent company. Watch out.

You will have pain with serverpronto, be careful. They wont cancel your account, wont replace your bad hardrive and they will ask you to send a fax to cancel where fax is not working at all.

I am on 3rd day to get them cancel a non-working server, i wont have time to work on that. Its a joke company.

Yeah, those costs seem too good to be true...
I'll repeat 'you get what you pay for'.

Site looks a bit naff too,
couldnt even be bothered to style the main text, left it to the browser default - or even worse, they chose Times New Roman :|

Not adding extra for Win2k3 Server? Hmmm...
Free OS Restore, Soft Install, Free Hardware Install, Free Kernel Recompile and free security patching? Um... That's a bit cheap. Are they desperate or stupid?

No restrictions on contents?
Subject to what? So they'd allow illegal files? Running from a basement or what?!
