What does this mean exactly?

"If you are unable to run your own DNS service, Dot TK can run that for you. For just USD 35.00 per year you have full capabilities to change hostnames and IP addresses real-time in your DNS Control Center. Changes are taken in effect immediately"

You need to be able to direct the domain to your hostings nameservers, right? and this means you cant do that unless you give them another 35 in andition ot the 9.95 they get for the name? so a name costs $45 compared to others??

how do you run your own dns service??

No, I think thats $35 a year if you want them to host it. DNS hosting alone would be rather inexpensive if you went with another web host. You can setup your own name server on any OS.

Or use a free dns host, there are a few good ones around.

what does dns hosting mean? does that mean running a dns server? or pointing to a dns server?

dns server is run by web hosting, so I just assume dns hosting is the service directing the domain to a dns server, or am I wrong??

which ones are the good free dns hosts?

DNS hosting means running a DNS server. This is normally done by your hosting company.

Free DNS hosting services are for people who are doing their own hosting. If you need to ask what DNS hosting is then I suspect you probably don't have the expertise that would be required to set up zone files, so I would recommend that you stick with a commercial hosting provider until you have acquired that expertise.
