hi there! I have been a member of several phpbb boards for a while and I want to make my own now. I have downloaded it to my computer but I have no clue what next. I know it needs hosting but HOW do I host it? I have tripod webhosting but I am used to just putting in my html to create a page. I am totally new to anything else.

I would appreciate any help or a point in the right direction.

There's some good install documentation directly on phpbb's site here! (http://phpbb.com/support/documents.php?mode=install)

If your current host allows it, it's really just a matter of uploading the files, setting permissions and getting your database in order. (Read the above link for details on all those steps.) I'll be more than happy to help, if need be.

Tripod may not even offer a database option, you may have to ask.

A forum install basically involves setting up a database and running through the installation presented by the script. phpBB is pretty straight forward as there is only 1 setup page and you're done.

If you need help, shoot me an email or catch me on AIM. I've done quite a few phpBB installs ;)

You need a hosting that can support php and mysql database.

unzip the files you downloaded then upload it to your web host

then follow the documentation.

but if you going to get a paid hosting, your better off with those that has fantastico installer since most if not all includes phpbb already.

Anyway question? dont hesitate to ask me...

I don't think Tripod offers mysql, and you will need that for any decent BB, you will likely have to get yourself hosted elsewhere.

yup, phpbb is available through basic Cpanel, with Fantastico you get 3 more bb's.
