View Full Version : Counter-Strike, Ventrilo and more?
k1ucHt 07-28-2004, 06:13 PM Hey everyone heres the deal. I'm looking for a dedicated server hosting company with multiple locations. For the most part on the East Coast (United States) but Central and Pacific servers would be nice as well. I am looking to host/re-sell Counter-Strike Servers and Ventrilo Servers to start. About 4 - 5 to a server I suppose. My price range is no higher then $150 a month. I'd love to find a company that is just under $100 but we'll see what happens. I'm also looking for minimum to no setup fees.
If you have the time help me out. What specs should I be looking for to host all of the above?
Thank You

RyanD 07-28-2004, 06:18 PM You won't find many providers that offer servers spread out accross the country I can't think of a big name place that actually owns datacenters accross the country like that you will most likely want to go through group/person that is a reseller for multiple dc's
k1ucHt 07-28-2004, 06:20 PM Ah see I'm new to all this, but it makes sense. Well since I'm on the east coast lets start there. Any help?
Also if you know any Central providers let me know. In case we expand sooner then I had planned.
RyanD 07-28-2004, 06:23 PM there are a ton of east coast providers if you are looking to go straight with a DC
Sago, gnax, ezzi, nocster/burst, etc
PinkPenguin 07-28-2004, 06:26 PM k1 Will you be needing any sort of partner with support/design ect?

webephex 07-28-2004, 06:36 PM anyway you won't get 4-5 quality gaming servers for $100 with no setup fees and you cant host ventrilo without a corp. license so you'll need some setup fees there anyway.

looks like you won't be around for long
k1ucHt 07-28-2004, 06:42 PM I am quite aware of the ventrilo licensing. Considering i was the one to point it out to you and your company phex after you setup my ventrilo server and it wouldn't let more then eight people connect.
Hello Again.
webephex 07-28-2004, 07:35 PM hello again, thought i recognized your site. yes without a license you can't host more than 1 server per machine nor one with more than 8 slots. also, looking over the license you aren't even allowed to sponsor people.
also i would recommend atleast a P4 2.8Ghz for you, and depending on the size of the 5-6 servers they might not run without a little bit of choppieness on it. the only east coast provider in your price rage that i can think of is ezzi but as of several months ago their network was a bit too unstable for gaming because of frequent DOS attacks. if you want quality on the east coast i think your going to have to look higher for a quality machie with a quality connection.
Rahil 07-28-2004, 10:21 PM You'll need a P4 2 GHz with 1 GB RAM at the very least. Celerons just won't cut it. Ventrilo.com isn't accepting any new licenses, so even if you were to bite the bullet and register your company, you still wouldn't be able to sell ventrilo servers yourself for the time being. While searching for a dedicated server provider, I suggest going in with an open mind. Look at the prices for both low-end (P4) and high-end servers (Dualies). One company may have expensive low-end servers, but very cheap high-end servers. You won't find many dedicated server providers to accommodate your needs for less than $100 per month per server.
Look into The Planet, nice reputation, & central location.
Good reviews I would recommend them.
voxio 07-29-2004, 04:57 AM i dont think ventrillo are accepting anymore licences, also you need to be a registered company in your state to apply.

Your allowed to sponsor as long as you [the company] pays the appropriate lisence fee for it.
On another note of ventrilo: you can always talk to companies who are listed as an official hoster. Many of the companies offer reseller services. You may not be able to host it YOURSELF, however at least you have the ability to sell it.

FrozenWire 07-30-2004, 11:51 AM Contact me on AIM as soon as you can. I am pretty sure we can help you out but I would like to find out more of what you are looking to run and what you need.
Thank you and hope to hear you.
Kevin Teoh 07-30-2004, 03:04 PM I'd suggest ThePlanet, ReconGamer, or Choopa.com for Eastern servers.
[edit]
As for specs, at least a dual MP Athlon system or a P4C system. Hard disk space is something you may want to worry about if you're going to serve up some HLTV with popular clans, and a GB of memory is to say the least, a nice thing to have.
mehulmjc 07-30-2004, 04:51 PM yah they got good ones usally DC team up with others thats how you can call a few big ones
BlackDemon 11-23-2004, 11:18 PM XGamingZone.net offers reseller accounts. You will need to email them for details. They have 3 east coast locations, 2 central, & 2 west locations...
They have awsome deals and great support. I would suggest trying them out.
You can email the owner at djones@xgamingzone.net
CurtWRoyer 11-23-2004, 11:38 PM Its very pointless to start a gaming company with that budget. You would have to sell servers at a high price so you only run a couple off a server. I would start in one location and go from there.
