Buying a slick-looking template is like purchasing a slick-looking car without test driving it.
Recently, one member was staunchly defending his purchase and use of a template, even though there were another 150 sites recorded that were using the same template (with even the same logo!). During the argument, someone posted a different thread asking what everyone thought of his site - it was the same template (yep, that's 151, and who knows how many haven't been counted? :) ). I came up with this neat idea to build a site using the same template, and then spam his customers with renewal notices. I figured maybe 1 out of 4 would see my site and sign up with me, because it wouldn't look any different than his. In all honesty, I would never do something like this, but I can see it happening, and it would be perfectly legal!
Sites-in-a-can are generally very poorly constructed, and often you'll find yourself searching for a developer to help you fix the problems inherent in them. If you are strictly interested in grabbing up some of the visual elements and you want to reengineer the site itself to be usable and forward compatible, then I suppose that's another matter entirely. But personally, I'd say you'd be better off getting yourself a real designer to make you a real site.
By the way, excellent choice with HostGator. They are a very good company - well-respected, competitively priced, and they provide very good, fast customer service. There are cheaper reseller hosts out there, but I think you'll be happy you went with HG. Good luck!

Thank you for your comments toward this issue.
When I bought the template it said it had been downloaded 5 times. give or take I would say it could be reused around 15 times.
But how many web sites are out there? in total if you where to buy a unique template. And charge the customer double what it cost you, make some cash and not have to work as much.
I guess it really depends on your style of work. Why not use templates if they are already there and you can actually buy it only for you.
i guess it depends on how true are those numbers on their.

yes host gator is really working for me nicely. can you guys recomend a windows reselling site, with unbeatable prices.

Template Monster and other sites like them, do not have accurate numbers because they have many affiliates/resellers of the templates. So you may see that your template was downloaded 3 times at the main Template Monster site yet at affiliate #3045 has had 23 downloads of that same template.
I personally am all about brand or branding. If I didn't know anything about anything and I saw 5 sites with the exact same look, exact images, yet different name, I'd think it was the same company or variation thereof.
If you're comfortable with the Templates though, more power to ya.

Welcome to the forums cr-hosting!
Templates are great for the most part. Easy to work with & change. The one problem with them - you will find them all over the warez sites, people trading them, giving them away, etc. While it might be true it is downloaded from MT only 5X, you can bet that it can be found on a few warez sites & they usually do not count the downloads.
Basically most people do not have a problem with templates, especially if they need to get information out there quickly. The ones that I think should make their own sites are the web design companies. I have seen so many web design companies using a template. But that is just my opinion.

Is it possible to find out what sites are using your templates?
Its possible to find...most of them, do a search on the name of one of the flash files (the more important ones).
