I need advice on setting up an ebook selling system. Can you recommend any software (ideally open source) that would allow

1. the integration with the payment processor company
2. automatic generation of a temporary URL for a customer to download the ebook
3. generate and email temporary ebook links to previous customers for the ebook updates (I guess should provide newsletter sending ability too)

Also, since I'm new to this ecommerce stuff, up to what amount of sales is more profitable to rely upon the third party payment processors and when should one switch to direct card processing (ebook will cost approximatelly $30 US).

Any other suggestions of what I should think about for selling ebooks?

Thanks.

I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but I saw this post about a turnkey ebook site.

NOTE: This is not my site - not my post- and I am in no way affliated with this person - Thus this is not self promo

Hope this helps

Hi!

There are very few good programs available, unfortunately, not open source though. With good understanding.

For ebook sellers and others selling any intangible goods to be sold on ecommerce today... them owners need to have a good program that protects them from fraud and such. Security control on sending immediate download links upon a customers purchase.
In the long run it would be well worth getting a good program that secures less loss to you the owner. i.e. Timeout of active link provided to purchaser, hidden location in browser of download url....

There are a few out there and worth the money spent in the long run. Affordable too in my opinion.

I would use oscommerce (www.oscommerce.com), it has alot of add on modules, one of them is module that allowes downloads of content and controls the # of times your customers can download the product.
