I have seen some people make money off of Google Adsense, but haven't heard too much on it. Do you think it is a good choice to use?

Do you think it is a good choice to use? UH-Matt 07-27-2004, 08:08 PM Not for a webhosting business website. Why would you want adverts on your corporate site? frankiee 07-28-2004, 11:31 AM We use adsense for our free-based sites. Adsense is real, and pays well, compared to other affiliate programs. But you shouldn't use it for your corporate site, as Matt says, as it's very unprofessional. galacnet 07-28-2004, 11:41 AM Yes once people see Ads ( Other than your own ) on your commercial webhosting site they will tend to move away. And Adsense streams competing Ads to your site.... Click on a Adsense link gives you a few cents to a few dollars.... Making the person stay and signing up gives you more revenue on the long term. :) GideonX 07-28-2004, 02:09 PM like what the others said, it makes absolutely no sense to put it on your own commercial page. you run the risk of advertising for someone else! Lev 07-28-2004, 02:32 PM In addition to what people said, for commerical web hosting, people aren't going to browse your site very long usually, so you won't get much anyway. AdWatcher-Boris 07-28-2004, 02:49 PM If you want to find out more about AdSense, SitePoint.com/forums has a forum dedicated to affiliate programs and AdSense comes up there all the time. However, in order to add to what others said, putting ads on a commercial site simply shows that you're not a serious business and if people can't trust you, they won't sign up. Boris ATwoTimes 08-03-2004, 10:31 PM Thank you all for your replies. It is all making sense now. It wouldn't be smart advertising my competitors on my site :P BetterEdit.c 08-04-2004, 12:22 AM I don't like adsense that much anyway. I've always preferred to contact individual businesses that offer services or products that would be interesting to my audience, but not compete with me. I then offer them adspace or a marketing deal of some kind (newsletters etc) and we go from there. If they seem interested but unsure - offer them a free trial for a few weeks. Once they see results then they will be happy to pay (just make sure you can get results of course!). So for a hosting site consider partnering with a domain registration business or copy writing business. That's if you don't decide to resell domains or write the copy yourself. |
