Hi

Has anyone tried installing a small firewall on their Windoze boxes that are used for hosting. I am talking about the software based firewalls like Zone Alarm, Tiny, Agnitum, Sysgate, etc.

Would appreciate your views and comments on installing one directly to your Windoze box

regards

I ran zone alarm for a while. It was effective, but I noticed a considerable drag on my machine. I finally ditched it and just installed a netfilter based firewall on my network.

Most of the W2K boxes that have a software firewall installed have Tiny installed.

Try BlackIce from Network Ice. It can be found at http://www.networkice.com/. I have been using this for about a year and a half now.

..Tiny or Agnitum (they also offer a free firewall).

Anyone tried both of these before, and do they do drastically slow down the Windoze boxes ??

I'm still not too sure which one to chose..

I have been using Zone Alarm for about 2 years or so, well a long time, and havent noticed a drag on my machine, but all my machines have alot of ram, which may be the case

It puts you in stealth mode and is pretty good.

Overall Zone Alarm is good
