Hi Folks,

I use Photoshop and Image ready to design/edit graphics for my web pages.

I was thinking of buying Photoshop Elements. Does it have the same web features as the full Prog?

I know it doesn't have some of the more advanced Editing tools for photohraphs etc. but I am more into the web design end of things.

Any thoughts?

Umm, if you already have PS, why downgrade?

Ok ok. That's noble of you. In my youth, I used a few programs under the "license extension program" (I tried pot in college too). It's not cool to do this, but I ended up learning them and purchasing them, so I made amends as well.

I actually have a copy of Photoshop Elements from purchasing a scanner about a year back. I haven't installed it, but what you'll want to find out is whether or not PS-E accepts all of the plug-ins/filters that PS accepts. Depending on what tools you use currently, you may want to see if it slices and saves for Web. There are so many useful functions in PS, that it's hard to know exactly what you personally will need and what you won't need.

If you're just using this for Web design, not print, I would recommend considering Fireworks, by Macromedia. I don't know how much it costs (I bought the suite), but it is, IMHO, the most powerful design program specifically for Web-based vectors and bitmap editing made.

But back to your original question - what features of the full PS do you currently use the most? What's important to you?

Well mainly I use the basic tools for editing pictures. I dont really use the advanced features like levels and curves etc. I would mainly use it for the Save for Web feature, croping.

So it would be interesting to see if PS-E has these basic functions.

If you have a scanner/camera, use their bundled software. As for using legit software, what I did was had an old copy of Photoshop then I upgraded to CS for only $199 the old copy cost me about $20-30. Try Ebay but for only legitimate sellers. Or go the academic route for a while if you're able to. I may somewhat be hypocritical at this point but owning a legitimate copy is far better than the non legit, I have more respect for starving artist with the tools than the money maker without the correct ones, if that makes sense. :D

Well the bundled software that comes with scanners etc are usually crap. I aint looking for something to show my digital pics. I am looking for a prog that will do all my web design stuff. I am photoshop user at heart. So I wanna know if Photoshop Elements has all the web stuff.

Try Photoshop LE not Elements then. Usually you can pick it up for under $20.

I use Photoshop at work but installed a copy of Elements on a collegues PC and the interface is very similar, however they have taken out much of the complicated stuff like levels. But for your basic photo editing and filters, Elements is fine.
