I have been in webhostingtalk.com for a while, but one thing I still could't figure out is the meaning of "on-site technican".
What does "on-site technican" service includes? Does it mean simple reboot, install custom software, troubleshooting, or upgrading hardware? (Or something more?)
The service by "on-site technican" is usually very expensive and billed by the hours, so I just wanted to know when they are involved and so I could try to avoid those situations.
Thanks,
Peter

ckpeter,
I think what it means might vary slightly from host to host. I'd contact the ones you are interested in directly to get an exact answer.
From my experience simple reboots (in moderation) and simple questions/answers don't fall into this "charged" area. OTOH, if you want them to install software or more time consuming tasks, you'll get charged.

An onsite tech is basically someone or a group of people in the datacenter at all times. They're "on site" - So if you have any problems, they will be there to help troubleshoot your problems, at a cost of course. You don't need to wait for hours to get someone to work on your machine. They're usually available quick.

Also known as express support services :)

Most of the data centers outsource the tech works.
However there are somethings like hard reboots, troubleshooting hardware problems etc.. which requires a tech. which is physically present with the servers. This costs money..
Have a great day :)

So basically there is two kind of support: one is always onsite, the other its regular business hour. If I choose the onsite, problem will be troubleshooted quickly, but that cost money. If I choose to wait until the "regular" tech support, it will be free, but I have to wait.
Am I right?
I am mainly concerned with getting charged without knowing. So "onsite support" will not be invoked unless I explicitly ask for it, right?
Thanks,
Peter

Alot of companys rent space in another companies datacenter. 24/7 onsite technician usually means they have a member of they're staff present at whatever datacenter they're servers are at, whether it be they're own or another companies.
