This is a very general question. Those loads depend on dozens of factors, if not more, including machine specs, OS, other processes, resource usage, etc.

sorry, P4 2.4G, 1M cache, 512M memory, Fedora 1. MySQL 4.0.20, PHP 4.3.8, one site on the machine, cpanel control panel.

regarding processes, I got about 120 processes.

I know adding more memory will be better. I want to know when will you consider to upgrade your machine (under what kind of sysyem resource usage), and what value should be normal usage for a vBulletin?

by the way, I got another number inside vBulletin board,
average server load 0.45 0.42 0.37
the first post shows value I got from command TOP under shell.

which one is correct?

Thanks.

Can you provide us some details about your bulletin board, since a busy board will differ from a small board.

Number of online members
Number of members
Number of threads
Number of posts

300 online members,
40000 members
150000 posts
20000 threads.

thanks.

I am not an expert when it comes to resource usage and vBulletin, however, the numbers you have provided us compared to the server load look very good :)

I would agree, if you're running 300 online at a time with a load of 28% with 512 RAM, you're doing pretty well. I would also add that with 300 online that load could definitely escalate at any given time. I'd be pretty selective as to what else you add to that server...
