Hi People

I am after having a merchant account that will allow me to accept payments from my customers over the phone. I do not wish to have Shopping Carts or Automated check outs at this point.

All I need is a secure site that would allow me to input details obtained from customers over the phone or via Fax. I need to be able to accept both CC and Debit Cards.

I will be selling Computer systems and am looking to do up to 100 Transactions per months ranging from £200 – 1,500

As you can see I would prefer for it have a low Surcharges, i.e. World Pay has a huge fee of 4.5% per transaction which puts me off.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

World Pay is actually a third party processor so I do not believe they offer a virtual terminal. You will actually have to have a merchant account. Plus with that volume, it should be worth it for you in the long run.

World Pay does offer it under a products called world Access or somthing like that, but the 4.5% fee per transaction kills.

So I would need a Merchant Account plus what else?

If I was to get on the phone on Monday, who would be my best bet to call from companies within the UK?

Per the TOS, I am unable to tell you that unfortunately. I am not certain exactly what the percentages are over in the UK, I am sure they are a bit higher than the US unfortunately.

Do a little homework - calculate what you might spend a month on your transactions. So far your discount rate only with Worldpay would be ranging from 900-6750. Worldpay might be a little higher - but might be worth it as well in the long run

Another Problem with World Pay is the Fact it takes upto 4 weeks before payment reaches my A/C so I am told.

True - so that is something else you will want to take into consideration. Usually a dollar / Euro / Pound is worth more today than tomorrow.

Would it be Best If I get a Merchan A/C from my own Bank who I am already with?

Possible. Most banks actually outsource CC processing to a processor - so it might be a little higher since they would want a cut of it. And most banks also do not understand e-commerce as well as they should. They understand a consumer coming into a business & paying by a credit card but e-commerce is a different story. Plus they need to have a partnership with an electronic payment gateway so that you are able to accept the CCs online.

Talk to Barclay Merchant Services, if your going mail order then its the best way. I work for a company selling electrical goods and its never been more than 2%.

Hello

worldpay is a Merchant account, and allows Over the phone selling, and your own virtual terminal.

Freeserve, which has no changed names in the UK, use worldpay for Billing, I also know, because I have a worldpay account.

With worlpay, you can accept, solo, Switch, Master card, ect.. you can accept all types of payments.

nochex is a good processor, and I've heard a lot about them, but there not a merchant account service, so you cant process manually over the phone.

Plus world pay allows you to setup a direct debit with your customers.
