View Full Version : Need Linux SysAdmin/Tech Support in Melbourne, Australia
NexDog 12-27-2001, 02:21 AM Hi,
We are a new hosting company based in Melbourne, Australia and we are in need somebody to nurse our servers full time. We want someone to work out of our office and must know Plesk and Linux technology well. Servers will need extensive customisations in the near future, installations of perl modules and php scripts etc.
So if by any stroke of luck you have these qualifications and based in Melbourne then I need to hear from you. Fantastic opportunity as salary, responsibilty and positions will grow at the fast rate of our company.
Please email me (laurence@hostnexus.com) as soon as possible.
Regards,
Laurence
NetXL 12-27-2001, 03:31 AM Out of curiousity, why would you need someone physically at the office, if most of the work is done through a web based CP on a server in the US? You will most likely find someone that will work cheaper, and/or have a broader selection of people to choose from if you didn't restrict the request to just someone from Melbourne. I do understand though, if your main problem is being able to trust someone that isn't physically there under your supervision.
NexDog 12-27-2001, 04:41 AM Hi,
Good points and I'd be happy to hear how you do it. At the moment there are just 2 of us, me, doing the administration and a partner who's financing the operation and has no technical knowledge.
Ideally, to work side by side someone would be great but as this is such a specialesed field, I'm not sure if we will be able to find someone quickly. It's not so much that I want to supervise someone or some people but I would like to build not just a company but a team, a family.
I see you're Australia based, how do you work your system admin and tech support?
Regards,
Laurence
NetXL 12-27-2001, 05:00 AM I don't run the company.
Though as I pointed out before, it's web based administration, so I can do server administration as well as the people in Sydney. We keep in contact over the phone, and everything runs quite smoothly, although, our servers are in Sydney, so we have people in the company with physical access to the data center, making it easier for ded. server setups etc.
NexDog 12-27-2001, 05:11 AM I understand. At best, I think I would require staff to be Australia based because of time difference. We will be 24 hour but I won't. Techs are easy to train so we will have some on nights. so anyone out there Australia based and has time, actually 3-4 hours a day at first, then email me (laurence@hostnexus.com).
NetXL, could you email me too as I have been searching for a decent Australian data center for a few more servers. Love to hear about where yours are.
Thanks,
Laurence
NetXL 12-27-2001, 05:19 AM In some cases a US tech may be handy. They could work their normal hours, which is most likely the time you'd be sleeping, and vice versa. Almost a 'true' 24/7 support. :)
