suppose I need to add, remove, edit email boxes, I will have ssh root right. does anyone know the best way without control panel? Thanks.

If you don't use any type of control panel, webmin included, then you are only left with the ssh option...

Start reading the manuals of your mail server program (Postfix, Sendmail, Exim, QMail, etc). Gotta remember that you'll probably be dealing with both SMTP servers, which pull the mail in, and then also POP3/IMAP servers, which let your users get the mail (QPopper, Courier, Cyrus, etc).

I personally use, and recommend, Cyrus... It's kind of a black-box POP3/IMAP server, and keeps its own user authentication database. That way you can have email-only users, without creating full-blown system accounts, which allow shell, FTP, etc access. Setting up Postfix to feed mail into it is a breeze (as most everything is with Postfix, IMO :D)

i got fbsd box and have courier- poastfix- squirrelmail- for webmail - and running courier for imapd and pop3d as well as -ssl. i am working on it says it is getting an impad error : dropped connection
