View Full Version : Sharing a server

Hi,

I am interested in sharing a server with one or two of the regulars in WHT on a cost-sharing basis.. I already have a reseller space with Splashhost for hosting.. I am primarily in need of a large space [around 5-10GB mainly for email hosting]

I have some good dedicated server offers [which I can afford my self] but I feel it will take me almost a year to reach even 70% capacity on those machines..

Basically I am thinking of a server like PIII 800 or greater, 256 -512 MB RAM, 40GB IDE.. So if we leave 10GB for software and burstability three resellers can share 10GB each at around 50-60$/mo

The other alternative is for me to go for a RAQ but I am not too keen on that

If any one would like to share this kind of a server with me please email me at admin@valai.net

All financials and modus operandi can be mutually worked out if we are all reasonable

Thanks in advance
Balaji

I already bought a server and was thinking of doing something like this. Yes, it's hard paying 100% of a bill for a dedicated server and only using 1/10 of the resoures.

BUT I somewhat decided against it someone has to have ultimate control in the end. Who gets root access, everyone? What happens if someone screws up? What happens if one party needs the whole server, the others just leave?

To many if's and but's for my liking. If it was my best friend i'd consider it.

Livetronix,

I do agree with you... but we are all sharing resources whether we like it or not.

How will you control some other reseller sharing your server [or his customer] from running some mad scripts that push the load to 60? Happened to me once and believe me it was not at all an enjoyable experience.

And poor Josh of ecommercediscovery got his server down thru DOS attacks and although he is very good, all his customers and their customers are going thru hell

It's like driving really... accidents do happen but by and large everyone drives sanely and we reach home safely... thats why I prefer to share with a reseller because he has his business to take care and me mine... In fact even for shared hosting I dont accept programming sites or game sites because I have found that business people are generally sane and are keen on the dollar at the end of the day - rather than having some puerile fun nuking something

Like William Blake said " Mutual fear breeds peace!".

I think I will start by trusting and if things go really bad I can always move to a dedicated server...

Thanks for your thoughts
Balaji

Yes i also do agree but i myself if i share a server will not let someone push it and ruin, or create downtime what so ever they would be shutdown the second it happend i am going to be using the shared hosting for accounts like www.guruhosting.biz/plans.shtml THANKYOU!. Hehe and good night

Just a quick couple of points, Nihuua, and I don't mean to be mean. I noticed your plan table is an exact copy of echolima's and if I can remember, so can other peple. Echolima actually run their own servers so get a bulk price on transfer which no data center sells for less than $2. And being a reseller, I imagine the price would be triple for you at best.

Any host that promises a 10 gig plan at 10 bucks a month (not including data centers) is going one of 2 ways: they are selling at a loss or at best, praying their clients won't use that much transfer and try and stay afloat until such a time they can boost their prices (when they have a large client base). The second way is that they are going to go out of business because in the end a few bandwidth pigs will always turn up and problems arise.

And "Realiable" is spelt reliable. There is plenty of room in the industry for quality companies that can honestly deliver all they promise and there are also too many dodgy hosts on the net that has given rise to the hordes of webmasters out there searching for a new home. I just hope you chose the right path and add to the quality rather than the quantity.

Taks Care.

Never heard of us? I can't believe that. You have copied our exact comparision table - http://www.echolima.com/shared.htm and you have also copied our exact service. Why?

Why share a server? Why not get a Private Server all of your own?

wtf do you think your talking to saying i copied your **** more then liekely you copied me im not the one who went to some free site and got a free layout cause i can't afford a " Real web designer " Or do it myself. heh pitty you like to say someone copied you.

Hmm...lets see the link does work so I don't know what you are talking about. Second I know you copied us because we have been up for a while and you just started your site and only have the one page. I saw that you changed your service quickly however you still use our exact same comparision table. So don't try to act so inocent.

You two are getting off-topic. Go fight somewhere else.

Perhaps this thread should be closed.

Ya, I didn't mean to start a fight here. I just wanted to point out a few things of value to a person starting a host. These boards all to frequently end up in cat fights which I suppose is natural in such a highly competitive field. Anyways, this thread ended long ago and I believe the parties can continue this privately. moderators have been notified...........
