Hi everyone. I did several searches here and found several related topics, but none of them really solved my question.

I have a small reseller account, and I want to have my own private nameservers. My hosting company can set them for me for a monthly fee, but I believe I can set them up myself (that's where I need your help ;) .
My reseller account has WHM and Cpanel, and my domain is registered with Godaddy. I already know how to set the private nameservers on Godaddy, but I need to know the steps I need to make on WHM to make the nameservers work. This is a reseller account (it's not my server), and I don't have shell access (most of the answers I found required some modifications using root shell access).

Please let me know if I can do this by myself or if I need to pay my hosting company for the private nameservers. I would prefer to do it myself.

Thanks alot for your help!

Edit the DNS zone to reflect the ns1, ns2 changes made on godaddy and it should work. Dont forget the extra period at the end. :)

Interesting, my host did custom name servers for free, when I asked he even did Full private name servers with reverse DNS entries. Though he would be charging for 2 IPs that would be used

BTW, why you need shell access for name servers?

I personally suggest using your web hosting companies private nameserver plan. It's going to be easier for you in the long run, and will save a headache that you could "pay" away. If your hosting business is worth anything then you will make the money back.

Hi:

The major of reseller hosts give you the option to have your private nameservers (ns1 & ns2) for free. I think this is basic for a reseller to 'hide' the real host you are on.

Can you name the host you are? In order to have a reference for making a comparison only :)

Add A entries for the nameservers on the server, if they're not resolving properly, that is probably why.

My hosting company originally had disabled the option to edit DNS zone (for security I guess) so I e-mailed them and solved that. I made the changes to the DNS zone (hope I did them right!) and made the changes at my registrar. I'll have to wait a couple of days for the DNS propagation, but I hope it works. If not.... I'll be back soon! ;)

Thanks for your help!

Nope, not working :( . I did a trace route on the domain, but it doesn't resolve the IP address. Did a check on DNSreport.com , and the problem is with the NS records. I modified them on my domain, but it is not working. I don't want to to give out all my info here, so if anyone could please help me in private, e-mail me at: cardsharp007@hotmail.com

Thanks,

Take help of your Host, they would be in far better position to help you out on this.

DNS is something, where expert Host can make the things simple for you.
