I was just looking through my domain listing (the one's I own), and began thinking maybe buying domains is kind of like Poke'mon swap cards (add whatever current kiddy addiction you can think of). Below is a good example:

I own a full set of:

ojii.com
ojii.net
ojii.org

I have 2 of the set for:

akashik.net
akashik.org
(missing akashik.com as it's owned by a record company)

ak0.net
ak0.org
(ak0.com is taken but not connected like the above, just not owned by me)

I have one of the set for:

mczi.com
dieary.com
ediarys.com
pointyboots.com

option to grab the others of the set above if/when.

All of which are pretty worthless from a spec. point of view but all mine *lol* I know most people will agree domain collecting is a pretty addictive game, but does anyone else look at it the same way - relating it to swap cards? :)

hello...

i agree, domain hoarding is incredibly fun...

part of me feels bad, i'd love to see all horded domains released for creative people to create great looking websites with amazing content...

but then part of me likes owning stupid names for no apparent reason...

i'm in a slight dilmena, i own a .com, and am thinking about getting the .net/.org... but i have absolutely no use for them... (kinda like the other 10 or so domains i own... <sigh>) but still...

Boy, you've pretty much described me right there! I hesitate registering ones I want -just because I 'want' them, not becasue I need them. Far from it...

HAHA... great comparison! pokemon indeed! ~pictures best friends 11 year old and my 10 year old step son~ hee...

i have three total. i guess i can just have some self control and restraint! ;)

i have: http://blar.org and http://uglypropaganda.com and one other that isn't quite ready for public consumption.

but you know what i did when i wanted to buy another domain name? i bought one for my best friend for mother's day ( http://erzse.net )!

*chuckle*

Have a confession.. I did much the same thing. On my fiance's birthday this year I bought her a domain :) Couldn't justify buying myself one at the time and the poor girl was stuck at geocites.

What's a boi to do :)

it's horrible... my latest purchase was moo.st

why? i dunno, i think i like cows

i really hope i win the two cows from tucows... (i believe the 2,000,000th domain registered by them wins cows!)

Does anyone actually make any dollars hoarding all these domains? Or is this just one of those obsessive-compulsive disorders, like saving used aluminum foil until you have a ball of it so enormous you can no longer fit your car in the garage?

hello

i know i personally lost money from hoarding these domains... :)

it's more for the novelty factor, i'm all about making the web an interesting place, and if i ever get around to it, i will one day do that with my domains... :)

i wish i had illustrator 9 though, that would motivate me a little, i think...

the selling domain name game is kinda crazy, i dunno, i'm not really into buying thousands of domains starting with mybiz******.com and trying to turn one of them into a winner... i feel like i'm selling out

now i can just sit back and look at my pretty domain names and say...

'one day...'

It's compulsive.

Have a look at these domains I own

vb.st
bloodyhopeless.com
bum.cx
buggered.org
dhtmled.net <---- hopeless, but was the first domain I ever bought :D
wokadoo.com <---- will be my 'company site'
1ssg.com <---- well, should be my personal site, but I'm re-doing the design for the umpteenth time. So no, Kunal, it won't be up for a while.

Maybe we need to establish a 12-Step program for this.

It's no shame to be sick, Dana.

So long as you take action to get treatment for your problem.

Yeah, I just bought my girlfriend the dot-com version of one of her nicknames. I'm not sure that she'll really appreciate it, though, in spite of the fact that it is a cool name.

Right now it's just housing a little flash movie I made for her.

*lol*

well yeah I suppose we are a little 'quirky' by nature. :) I suppose the oddest part of it is, they make *perfect* sense to us when we get them.

Actually akashik is a bastardized version of akashic which is a Bhuddist term. It has to do with the akashic record which supposedly is the spiritual font of all knowledge people can access through meditation (or something like that)...

... so see! It *kinda* makes sense as a domain (accessing knowledge and all that). It's only shortfall is, unless you know all that pop-psychology-eastern-religion bit, it's just a rubbish word *grin* The biggest problem with it, is no-one even figures out how to pronounce it ( ahh-cash-ik ) which also stops people mentioning it to others. :)

In BC's favour at least wokadoo is pretty straight forward when you read it, and then say it out loud. :)

Maybe we're all trying hard to make up for calling a beer XXXX
