Hi Guys,

Just noticed how bad the default win2k3 tcp/ip stack is compared to linux. Doing tests between two datacenters shows the following result on a 6mb file:

DC1 - DC2 (Windows 2003): 30kbps
DC1 - DC (Linux RH9) : 160kbps

Other direction saw similair results, not there is a 240ms delay between the two DC's (USA - South Africa)

So, the question is - how can I optimise 2003 tcp/ip stack for better performance. Default is probably for LAN environments.

Do a search TCP optimization Windows Server 2003 in MSDN will help.

Try this.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=optimize+TCP+setting+in+Windows+Server+2003+

We got a lot of the insights from the result last time.

Btw, our 2003 server can output 60-70M sustained within our own network, so we don't think any tuning is really necessary and indeed Windows server 2003 is a great product, at least 90% faster than w2k on the same server hardware. Do you think so?

I don't think the default config for TCP/IP is bad, I would check the speed/duplex settings of your NIC and switch. That may be a cause of the slowdown.
