View Full Version : Hosting Specials for new clients / Old clients get upset

I run many new specials for certain hosting packages based on my server configurations. My question to the rest of you is how or if you deal with the following:

Old client has a standard package and been with me for say 6 months. I run a double everything or "extra" 500MB storage. The old client happens to visit my hosting page and notices he doesn't have those standards.

Instant ticket is sent in asking about having his account upgraded to that package. I have said in the past the specials are for new clients but the issue has been coming up alot and with the latest reply form a old client saying:

Why new customers have more priority then good old customers?

I'm wondering how the rest of you handle these issues?

If we have a special offer, it's open to all customers.

I usually try to run specials that have a slightly different price than my packages. This way, when a customer asks about the special I can upgrade them but their price is upgraded as well.

In your situation, I think all you can really do is indicate with the special that it is for new clients only. Then when one of your current clients questions the special you can direct them to where it says new clients only.

I have also seen some hosting companies charge a small fee ($19.95 or so) to upgrade clients to the new package.

I offer specials to new and old customers, however, my packages are always tailored in a way that they are different than old packages. So when old customers look to upgrade, they are getting more in one department but less in another. It evens things out :)

Keep everyone happy by letting your clients know of the special ahead of time and letting them upgrade before the fresh meat arrives.

I would combine the comments by KDA and 3spades. Offer all your specials to your existing clients before the specials go public...
