Hi!
Merry Christmas!!!
I know what URL forwarding is. Someone type in your domain on the address bar, the browser displays another site which the domain is referred to:
To illustrate:
1. http://www.domain1.com/
2. Browser displays at the address/location bar
http://www.domain2.com/domain1/index.html
and shows the content at that URL.
What about URL masking? What will be it's effect?
Am I right in saying that it will be something like this:
1. http://www.domain1.com/
2. Browser displays at the address bar/location bar http://www.domain1.com/ but retrieves the content from http://www.domain2.com/domain1/index.html
3. The domain http://www.domain1.com is consistently displayed on the browser's Address or Location bar even though you have already clicked on a different html document.
?
Am I right? Is this the same as framing? If this is the case, will this be not search-engine friendly or banned by search engine at all?
And for a domain pointer, is this how it works:
1. http://www.domain1.com/
2. Browser displays http://www.domain1.com/
at the address/location bar and shows the content of http://www.domain2.com/domain1/index.html
3. When you click on a different html document, browser address/location bar displays
http://www.domain1.com/new1.html
but displays the content of http://www.domain2.com/domain1/new1.html
?
If this is how it works, what is its implication with search engine?
I only know that some registrars offer URL forwarding/masking but not domain pointers. How do I get a domain pointer? If I am right about how it works, then it is a cheaper alternative to buying lots of hosting when you do have extra bandwidth and space on your current hosting plan.
The downside probably for domain pointer is you don't get an email account or is it possible to get one under your domain too?
Anyone?
Thanks.
:)
