View Full Version : Good control panels for linux dedicated servers
lightone 12-24-2001, 11:38 AM We are a dedicated server company and I have been giving our users webmin as a control panel. Doesn't have enough options.
What is a good inexpensive control panel to use for dedicated server customers?

Ensim Webpliance is for like $999 (not sure)
Their server exchange is very expensive (around $2k/mo?)
Why not check their site??
ho247 12-24-2001, 02:11 PM I don't really understand why people would pay for Plesk or any other control panel, I've used Webmin for the past two years and it's just been great and still is! It's free too... so why???

Thats a simple question
Webmin doesnt have a client frontend
Webmin doesnt handle billing
Webmin is mainly targetting towards server admins
Webmin does not allow one to manage clients/domains
There are a LOT of other reasons, but only those come up to my mind at 12 midnight. ZzzZZz
ho247 12-24-2001, 02:58 PM LOL, certainly good points, but I guess I meant for server administration only and not for running a web hosting company.
MotleyFool 12-25-2001, 11:29 AM Webmin for server admin and webcp for resellers and end clients is a free choice...
Also there is a GPL software called kandalaya.com where they claim that everything is available for free
If you are okay with giving email control panel to endusers you can also look at qpopmail + vpopmail +vpopadmin
But I have no first hand experience with this..

MotleyFool 12-27-2001, 06:52 AM Hey,
vHost
freeVSD &
ISPMan
are also free control panels
But the more I study control panels [and the more I use WHM and CPanel *L*] the more I am coming to the conclusion that command line usage is the BEST.
My dream server would be
FreeBSD,djbdns, qmail, vpopmail, qmailadmin and sqwebmail as a mail server [add qpopper]
Control Panels are like artificial intelligence and not good enough substitutes for natural stupidity!

I am very interested in this and would like to see it working, or know someone who has used it, and could give there views on this product.
