I would be curious to hear your thoughts on AMD's Quad-Opteron servers.  I am looking for your comparisons against Quad-Xeons.

as always it mostly depends on what you do :)
when you have a fully 64bit application it should run faster on opterons.
linux is available in 64 bit, so i would assume opterons would do better on a lot of cpu-intensive hosting stuff (like big mysql-tasks)

actually i am also intrested in good opteron servers (dual 244 or more, quad?)
unfortunately no host offers resonable opteron servers.
just a few hang around with the minimum (240's) config for unserious prices

but as i saw in other tread a dual opteron 244 wont come out more expensive than a dual xenon 2.8.
so it should be possible to offer both with about same price.
i hope some providers wake up soon :)

is there already a VPS-OS in 64bit available?
that would be nice a VPS on a quad opteron, with maybee 8 VPS's on the server, that should make much power with good price.

http://www.anandtech.com/IT/showdoc.aspx?i=1982

anandtech has an article for 4-way opteron 848 vs 4-way Xeon MP (including the 4M L3 model). the benchmark includes Forum Database, SQL database, and Enterprise Performance.

and once again, Opteron 848 (2.2G) w/1M-L2 smokes the Xeon 3.0G w/4M-L3 on either 2-way or 4-way.

the opteron overall will scale much better :)
