I am currently renting a server from my isp and am paying huge monthly fees. They offer a much reduced rate for co-lo which has got me looking for a cobalt store to buy a server. I've tried ebay, but shipping charges are usually quite high to bring goods over to Ireland. So are there any online stores which sell servers, preferably on this side of the Atlantic or how do you go about getting your hands on one of these machines :eek:

Shipping cost is nothing compared to import taxes (duty) and vat you will have to pay :(

I realize this is not really answering your question ;)
However I did feel the need to point it out. In my spare time *cough* I work for UPS in the Netherlands and around this time I often have to deal with people who go completely nuts when we try to deliver some computer equipment or other stuff they bought on the internet (ebay) and they have to pay cash to the driver delivering the pckg because of the duty and vat.

Depending on the country it came from, the value and the kind of goods this can run up to 100%. (although usually much lower)
Meaning you bought a $ 2000.- server and when it gets delivered you are likely to have to pay another $ 1000-1200 cash to the driver for duty/vat.

Them=no understand that :(

Concider other options like renting a server in the US or even the UK. Prices are much lower there.

Yes, I do realise about duty, after importing a copy of dreamweaver/fireworks from a US company which were doing great deals at the time. I got a phone call basically telling me they were going to double the cost :mad:

Anyhoo, hence the reason for looking for an Irish/UK store, or somewhere with the "€". I'd be really interested as I have never seen the actual buying of a server discussed, they seem to appear out of thin air in the NOC centre's of hosting companies etc. Any links would be helpful.
