Now that you've fulfilled your original one-year service contract, by continuing your service with us on a month-to-month basis you keep all the benefits of SBC DSL Internet that you've come to expect, and more, without having to do a thing. There's no no contract to sign and you will continue to get the same fast, reliable, DSL Internet service, plus some exciting new service enhancements, all for the new rate of just $49.95 per month with your next billing cycle.
Seems my first enhancement is the addition of $10 to my bill (was $39.95) which must be their way of saying, "Thank you for sticking with us this year even though we don't provide adequate support, nor reliable service!"

So they suck, but now I have a reason to switch. Need opinions on RR, Timewarner, Earthlink, Sprint, or whoever else provides DSL (or maybe cable?) in this area (southern L.A.). Have to research this a bit but if you live here and have any recommendations, I'd be glad to hear 'em.

Sweet.
"Dear Mr. Chicken.
We are happy to inform you that, for the extended privilige of using PacHell DSL, we will allow you to pay us an additional $120 per year."

Bastards. I had PacHell when I lived in Sacramento. It sucked. So I switched to Comcast, which I've heard is now no more. It's hard to keep up with.

I've heard really good things about speakeasy.net.

Finally, someone who understands my pain. Well, I've tried to do some further research into alternative providers and noticed that the most I can save is $5. There is a place that offers PacBell DSL for $45/mo for the first 12 months then $49.95 after that (sounds familiar), but to save the $5, I'd have to do the one-year contract thing, and I will hopefully move from here within a year, sooooo... I guess they got me.
