Since the details of our hosting experience with GXHosting.com is already in other folders, we won't repeat that information here.

basically, our question is: What would be the easiest way to transfer a domain from a hostile host (web site has been down for 30 days with out response) to a new hosting service?

We currently have a domain hosted with Rocket Host and have been happy with them. Or we may consider looking for another. We were trying to keep the two sites separate. But had to transfer content to our other domain in order to not loose our pages.

Our domain was ordered when we ordered our service from GXHosting in August/2000. My understanding is that Bulk register was used. I base this info from other web forums who mentioned how GXHosting registers their domains.

Our domain is listed as follows:
More Than Conquerors Online Forums (MTCFORUMS-NET-DOM)
P.O. Box 943
Carlsborg, WA 98324
US

Domain Name: MTCFORUMS.NET

Domain servers in listed order:

NS3.GXHOSTING.NET 208.56.139.67
NS4.GXHOSTING.NET 208.56.138.54

I am not very web master savy. I run online forums for abuse survivors, so I have limited technical understanding of all of this. In fact, this was our first domain. Before we always had subdomains because it was easier to set up and work with for someone with limited techical knowledge.

Idon't know if it matters, but our phone number and e-mail listed with the registrant has changed. The PO. Box address has not changed. Would this effect transfer of this domain?

If anyone has suggestions or tips, please post here or feel free to e-mail me at forums@prodigy.net

Thank you!

We aren't a company, but rather a series of online support forums for abuse survivors. We don't have company letterhead. :look:

Any other ideas of what we could do to prove who we are? Of course if we can get Host Rocket to help us, they know who we are because they already host another domain for us.

All of this is so frustrating  and confusing . I would like to throttle flamethrow GXHosting for doing this to their customers. I know we aren't the first victims..nor the last..

I would strongly suggest you transfer the domain so that you will have direct control of the domain name through a control panel (there are several). This allows you to change your domain name server information to bring your site back up ASAP. You appear to be the administrative contact which gives you approval authority for any transfer (good news for you). If you are saying the supportforums@juno.com e-mail address is no longer working then things become a bit more complex as e-mail authentication is the most common form of domain name transfer authentication. You can typically update your e-mail address by contacting the original registrar which of course may be a problem if the original hosting company is not responding to you. Once you have an updated e-mail you should be able to transfer your domain with a variety of people (we do this) for $15 or less (I have seen as low as $5.99 but I do not know if you get direct access with that price). There is another possible way to get the domain back but I do not want to post the method here as someone else might use it and snag your domain (ok perhaps I'm a bit paranoid!). Give me a shout if you need more help!

After rereading your post I saw the reference to bulkregister.com. Contact them and since you are the original owner you should be able to make the transfer by faxing them identification such as a drivers license to update your e-mail and add the new domain name servers. I would still recommend getting direct access so that you can cut the old host out of the picture. We learned the hard way the very lesson you are unfortunately learning now. Contact me if you need more help at MadMax82@deagle.com.

GXHosting isn't responding to anyone from what I understand. They registered the site using Bulkregistries so I understand changes are impossible from my end.

The supportforums@juno.com doesn't work at all anymore. I do have another domain registered to my current e-mail that Host Rocket uses, so I am trying to see if they have any ideas.

Can you e-mail me the other method you mentioned? My e-mail address is forums@prodigy.net

Thanks!

I just reactivated the e-mail address, so now I need to know what I should be doing next.

I don't know where to transfer the domain to. Whether I should use our other hosting service or find a new one.

any suggestions would be helpful.

I just want to let you know that you are not alone.

We have had a lot of people transfer their domains to us from GX Hosting due to their lack of response and downtime. It is rather an easy process to transfer to us. We are also a Bulkregister.com reseller and they will transfer the accounts with a simple email confirmation from you. We have a dedicated rep that we go through because of all the hassles that GX Hosting has initiated, and we get results in a day or less from them.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us directly.

Ahhh, good point. Letting the slight hint of promotion slide as it brings up a good point that might be easier for you. Might want to ask for other bulkregister resellers as this might end up being quicker and easier. I know this greys the lines (once again), but they can email you (instead of posting).

I just finished sending in a request for a domain transfer with a company I researched on the net. They offer the control panel for changes and their fee was excellent. So, I will keep everyone posted whether we succeed in transering or not, or whether Bulkregister.com releases our domain. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't. Its been more than 60 days as ICANN requires before a transfer can occur. Our domain is paid for at least a year, could be two, I don't remember. So, nothing should stop them from releasing it.

Thank you for all of your help everyone!
