View Full Version : Is this reasonable?

About two weeks ago I ordered a computer game from an online store here in the UK. On their website, they claim that "your credit card will not be charged until your order is shipped". My credit card was charged on the 17th; a package was mailed on the 22nd, arriving later that day.

When I opened the package, I found that they sent me the wrong game. The included invoice was clearly marked with the name of the game I ordered; the box was clearly marked with the name of a different game.

Naturally, I phoned up to complain. The person answering the phone told me that I would have to send them an email. When I sent an email, I got an automated reply telling me that "due to the holiday season, your email will not be read".

Is it reasonable to dispute the charge with my credit card company now? I know people here don't like chargebacks much, but what other option do I have?

I would, at least, phone them once more and tell them that an automated repsonse stating that my email won't be read is not adequate.

If that does no good. Then it appears you have no choice; and I would agree with you.

Normally you try to resolve it with the company... give it some time. If they don't refund and you receive your CC or bank statement, then contact your CC company and dispute the charges since you did not receive the product you ordered.:)

I don't think it is reasonable at this point. Chargebacks should be used more as a last resort, when relations with the company have ceased and you can find resolution no other way. While you have been charged, I don't think you are near that point yet.

Why not wait for the holidays to be over and then complain. See what they have to say..
Human errors are always possible. You must give them a chance....

Have a great day :)

Talking of chargebacks, I registered [or tried] to register a domain with signdomains.com [a reseller of domainpeople] and there was some bug with their software so after 2 attempts I went to 123domainregistry.com and registered the domain [this was on Oct 20 2001]

But when I got my statement for Nov from Standard Chartered, there were two charges to signdomains.com for 429 rupees each!
[about 8.5$]

I wrote to them for about 4 weeks back and forth and when I was nearing my deadline for disputing [15Dec] I forced a chargeback on the last day.

They were just promising to return every time I contacted them

So any of my Indian friends reading here can be ware..

Cheers

You should just wait till after the holidays, they'll probably send you out the correct game if you give them time.

If it is Jungle.com, I've used them lots of times and they've always been good, bit expenisve on the delivery though.

No, it isn't jungle.com; I'd rather not say which company it is until things get sorted out, but I'll say that their domain name is an anagram of ERG.COMMA.UK.
