new host. other than the basic facts CpanelWHM -- what else is essential to learn ?

You should not cross post, especially in the same sub-forum!!

If you have absolutely no knowledge of ssh I would start by getting familiar with it. A gui is nice but many times to fix something you have to get your hands dirty and use ssh.

i just checked the listing of posts i have made on this subforum and there were no other related posts to the topic.

if i have done something wrong please make it more clear to me.

Here's a quick run down, by no means meant to be a complete list:
You should be confortable with the following before taking a step into the industry:

1. How to compile a kernel from source.
2. How to troubleshoot a non bootable kernel.
3. How to use linux / bsd command line.
4. Good communication skills, written and spoken.
5. How to lock down a box. Including firewalls, IDS, software maintenance, etc.

i would say its not for me then :) thank goodness for managed hosting :)

One of the things that I have found very useful is to have a test server at my house. When playing around with a new kernel or even compiling the latest source of something it is good to see if it plays nicely with what you already have. If you stick to just what cPanel distributes you should be ok (other then the updates that break all servers). The stuff haze posted above is a very good idea, though IMHO compiling a kernel from source can be done a little later it is a good idea to learn.
