Diginode's Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS) plan is for everyone who wants to get a dedicated Linux server. The VDS solution is perfect for anyone who wishes to host web/ftp/DNS/nntp on it as the primrary or secondary server. We offer you full *root* access, and you can do everything a physical Linux server can do on it except for direct hardware access.

Features -

- Full Linux distribution (RedHat/Debian/Suse/Custom)
- Default Linux distribution - RedHat Linux *7.2* - Released 2001/10/22
- Pacakge Management (rpm/deb) so you can install popular binaries easily
- Apache HTTP Web Server
- PHP support (module+cgi)
- Perl 5.6 support (mod_perl+interpreter)
- MySQL Database
- PostgreSQL Database
- ODBC support
- WebDAV support (webfolders)
- FTP Server (Anonymous FTP Support)
- Sendmail MTA (with ESMTP AUTH relaying support)
- Postfix/Qmail MTA optional
- POP2/3 support and secure POP3 support
- IMAP support and secure IMAP support
- SSH/Telnet Access
- INND Internet News (Newsgroup Server)
- BIND9 DNS Server
- Finger/Identd/Echo/Chargen/Daytime Internet services
- OpenLDAP LDAPv3 Server
- Crond Job Scheduler
- Webmin server configuration control panel
- Webcp webhosting control panel (Similar to Plesk/Cpanel!)
- GCC and build tools included to compile your own source packages!!

- 5GB Hard Disk
- 25GB Transfer
- No Contract
- No Setup Fee

Only $49 per month.

The performance of the system is better than most sub $100 dedicated servers and definately better than the fastest RaQ4. Some of the advanced features like web_dav may require knowledge of the configuration files. Most settings can be accessed through our Webmin server control panel.

We also include WebCP when requested at no charge. WepCP is a web hosting control panel that is similar to PleskSA or Cpanel3. If you need a control panel for your domains and users, you will find that webcp is a nice alternative to other control panels, and includes reseller and billing features as well. The number of domains you host is only limited by your HD space and bandwidth settings.

All VDS partitions allow full root access, not the access to an Admin account as with other solutions (such as FreeVSD) which is very limited in what it can do. You can log in, start and stop services, compile your own software or add and remove packages. The VDS offers you whatever a real dedicated machine offers for most server tasks, at a very competitive price without setup fees or contracts.

Could you please advise if the following is supported :

- SSL
- FrontPage extensions 2000/2
- Unlimited sub-domains
- mutiple IPs

Do you have an option with FreeBSD?

Can you pre-insatll MajorDomo?

How is bandwidth calculated? What is overage costs or is bandwidth throttled?

SSL is enabled by default with mod_ssl and you can install frontpage 2000/2002 from the tarball or the RPM.

Unlimited sub-domains are supported from webcp. If you use webmin or edit the config files yourself, you can do that and much more.

If you want Majordomo, we suggest you use the RPM available. It is a one step process of installing the RPM.

Bandwidth is not throttled and is calculated by measuring all remote network traffic. Extra bandwidth is $3.95 per GB, be significant discounts when bought in blocks, i.e. $125/75Gb extra. Extra bandwidth can also be polled between servers.

Happy New Year!!! ;)

How is bandwidth measured?

Is it actual usage?

Yes, 95%, or full usage?

It measures *actual* traffic, and is fully burstable.

95% traffic should be mesured in Kbps/Mbps sampled every 5 or 10 minutes. The practice of measuring 95% traffic in gigabytes per month (by multiplying the mbps value by the length of the month) is very misleading and inflates prices significantly.

Happy New Year :)

IMHO $3.95/GB could also be considered "significantly inflated", especially given 75 GB is $125.

1. What hardware are the virtual servers based on.

2. How many virtual servers per physical machine.

4. What is your uptime guarantee?

5. Do you offer 24x7 support?

6. How many support staff do you employ?

7. Do you own your own datacentre and hardware?

8. How long are you in business?

cc: We encourage customers to plan ahead with their bandwidth usage, and that is the reason why bandwidth is significantly cheaper in blocks. When you look at our package, you get 25GB for $49 which is less than $2 per GB. It is more about trying to make efficient use of resources.

Our servers are on 1.4Ghz+ processors with 1.5Gb+ of RAM, with a maximum of 15 virtual partition per machine. This number is kept to the minimum. We offer a network uptime guarentee of 99.5% (excluding scheduled maintenance). We are a small team and a been around for almost a year. Our equipment is located at the AT&T IDC in Vancouver.

Bandwidth : Yes but the jump from 25GB to 100GB is huge guiven the minimum additional block is 75GB. Smaller blocks would be desirable.

15 Virtual servers per physical machine is quite a lot, in fact a bit much for my liking.

Hello Diginode,

One of cc's questions is missing an answer:
- multiple IP-s

Is it possible, and what the cost would be? (say 10 ip-s)

Thanks.

rdx : If you look at their web site additional IPs are possible and they appear to be free.

There is one other "catch" on the web site though. There are no setup fees but you need to deposit one month's fee for 6 months.

It appears you also have an additional onetime or monthly fee for support. Not sure if any support in included in base price.

diginode : I still don't know if that is 24x7 support or not.

Also what does "small team" mean. Is that 2 people? - could you be a bit more specific please.

Could you also specify how much experience (in number of years)you and your partner/s each have in the hosting industry.

Extended support is application level support and that is billed separately. We provide 24/7 support for critical operations, which means getting your partition back running if something goes wrong.

We are a small team of 5. I can't speak for the others, but I have been in the Unix ISP market since 1995.

Cheer Up!! Happy New Year!! :D
