SethEffectz 07-16-2004, 03:08 AM http://www.rackforce.com/dds_dedicated_servers/fair_share.html Offer to good? 40.00 for ddsUltra 64 MB RAM (Min.) 200 MHz CPU cycles (Min.) i dont think so.... anlene 07-16-2004, 03:13 AM oh ok thanks, I missed that 64MB RAM dats 07-21-2004, 10:38 PM Hi, SethEffectz you must have been looking at the older packages. The ddsUltra has 128 MB of RAM (minimum). Cheers ! JenniH 08-03-2004, 01:01 PM Hmm... we are looking at Rackforce. We are not heavy resource users and are looking at the DDSpro package at $24.95. I'll tell you what's holding us back: a) 96 MB RAM. We would have a couple of PHPnuke sites there (maybe 500 visitors per day each). I'm nervous that 96 would mean ultra-slow running. b) Looking at their website, and reading between the lines on WHT, I get a sense that Rackforce may not be newbie friendly. What I mean by that is that there is a strong hint that they might require payment to help people with the sort of problems others hosts do for free. We're not great techies here... we just want to set sites up and host them. That's all. What we don't want is mega hassle configuring the darned thing when we set up. I expect just to login on day one and everything to be there, for me to start adding sites. Too much to ask? Hardly... ask Dinix, Servint, HostGator, Bluewho and dozens of others who work just like that. I get the impression it might not be so straight forward here, and that the till might start ringing when we ask for support. Correct me if I'm wrong, which I hope I am. C) We like WHM/Cpanel, and when one of our guys rang we were told this is available with DDSpro. But is it? The Rackforce website doesn't say that. I think all these issues need to be clarified by Rackforce... and it's in their own interests to do this publicaly (which is why I have posted here). I like generally what I see there, but these wrinkles do need to be ironed out. YungCEO 08-03-2004, 07:53 PM I would recommend DIYHosting/HaloServe over RackForce. Just my two cents :) ezbnc 08-03-2004, 11:06 PM Remember your paying a lot of there high quality network there and friendly assistance. They have reported no network downtime for 2 years which is great as far as I am concerned. JenniH 08-04-2004, 10:44 AM I'm not saying they are a bad host at all... I simply don't know yet. The above though are three pretty fundamental issues which need answers, especially as they mirror other threads on here. WH-Coach 08-04-2004, 05:55 PM a) 96 MB RAM. We would have a couple of PHPnuke sites there (maybe 500 visitors per day each). I'm nervous that 96 would mean ultra-slow running Virtuozzo has "fair-share" technology that allows applications to use memory not consumed by other users. Your guaranteed minimum available memory is 96 megs. b) Looking at their website, and reading between the lines on WHT, I get a sense that Rackforce may not be newbie friendly. While Rackforce’s primary customer is the VARs (value added resellers). We are highly sensitive to the needs of the person just starting out – provided that you have a pretty clear picture of what you want to accomplish, our team will work with you to get your problems solved. The only thing they will definitely not get into is script debugging. You will get a fully functioning Plesk install on your DDSPro. C) We like WHM/Cpanel, and when one of our guys rang we were told this is available with DDSpro. But is it? The Rackforce website doesn't say that. Rackforce does NOT offer CPanel on our higher density products (the DDSPro and the DDSRage). Our engineering department beat the marketing department on product rollout for the DDSMax with CPanel so the sales people may have inadvertantly responded incorrectly. Hopefully this response answers your questions. JenniH 08-04-2004, 06:54 PM >> Rackforce does NOT offer CPanel on our higher density products (the DDSPro and the DDSRage) << Any particular reason for this, given that companies like ours would only half a dozen websites there? Given your other answers, it's this one point that actually stops us hosting with you, which is a shame. WH-Coach 08-05-2004, 12:35 PM The reason that we do not offer CPanel on the higher density boxes is that CPanel (which runs its own webserver and runs on Perl) is a heavy control panel compared to Plesk (runs on PHP and is more tightly integrated with Virtuozzo for obvious reasons) We are quite insistent that our customers get the best experience we can deliver at a price they can afford, so because we can't offer a DDSPro at $24.95 AND run CPanel on them we've elected to go without CPanel on the smaller environments. JenniH 08-05-2004, 01:45 PM I'd be sure to give your own sales staff that message then.... or alternatively, honor what they actually tell potential clients. I feel we've been led up the garden path a bit because of this. WH-Coach 08-05-2004, 01:50 PM Well, ask I asked in the PM, if you could send me the transcript of the chat I'll be able to take the issue up directly with the sales person. It is never our intention to mislead anybody. I do apologize on their behalf. JenniH 08-05-2004, 03:35 PM OK... it's sorted... as a mutual lack of clarity and understanding. I'll check in again in a few months in the hope Cpanel is offered on more packages. |
