Hey everyone,
I've been having way to much trouble trying to keep my websites online. Every host I move to has to tell me to leave because my sites are too big, and I don't have enough money to move to a dedicated server and buy extra bandwidth. So I've decided to host them myself. Only thing is, I need to know whether or not a dedicated computer and two bound dsl lines will be able to handle this.
Here's the computer I will be hosting with -- in a nutshell:
- 550Mhz PIII
- 256MB PC100 SDRAM
- 20GB Seagate IDE HD (7200rpms)
- I'll be running linux and apache ws
The computer will be used solely for hosting the sites, and for nothing else. It is also well cooled.
I currently have cable, but will be getting two dsl lines run into the house, which will be totally seperate from the cable and my home network. Here's the DSL specs:
- 2x: 384Kbs Up and Down
- Most likely using: http://www.nexland.com/nexlandstore/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=NO&Product_Code=200040
to make the two connections run together.
Do you think with these specs the server can handle approx. 300GB of data transfer per month?
If not, what upgrades should be made to make it possible?
Also, could someone give me a relative speed at which a 20KB page would load for a 56k user through the server?
Thanks for your time!
