Can someone give me some good reasons as to why or why not someone should use the default cobalt control panel for customers to edit there sites? It seems to be an okay panel, but not many hosting companies use it, why is that?
It seems to offer all the functions as typical control panels?

I think it comes down to that many hosts are not using RaQs for hosting (many *are* of course), and thus, they aren't using the Cobalt cp, or am I missing something in the question?
Well im just assuming that if there not using them there's a good reason why their not. That being the case, maybe i shouldnt consider them for the same reasons they dont use em.. but i was wondering why is it they dont use them?
Seems if they are worth while they would use them instead of paying all the cost of using another control panel or more expensive servers... so for what ever reason they dont use them is what im trying to figure out.. Because i had thought i could use the control panel for hostng features, but then started to wonder why no one else used it since it was so convenient. Wouldnt the cobalt cp be fit for hosting customers?

Most companies that use Cobalts do use the default control panel

What irks me is, there really is NO solution for RaQ's to setup any sort of reseller (or pseudo admin).
I want to have people capable of adding domains, but ONLY on one ip, to remove domains, but ONLY on that ip, and I want those domains created WITHIN the reseller's quota of space.
I have been ripping apart and dissecting the cobalt cgi and can probably get something patched up myself but it's gonna take a while, and I've got people lining up for reseller plans that I can't accomodate until I do.
 :bawling:
Thats a good point, but all the panels that offer such features would be kinda costly to add to the cobalt it seems. If you find a solution let me know, id be interested in it, buying it , whatever. ...
The whole idea behind the cobalt seems to be the user friendly, easy to use panel and admin features. So if i would have to add another control panel it seems it would just be defeating the purpose of getting the cobalt all together.

I got ya'. You seem to know why you would use them for hosting, but are asking why you wouldn't use them for hosting, eh?
If so, then a short list, and just so you know, some of these things apply to other servers, control systems, etc., as well, so don't get overly freaked out...
Cobalt cp is limited in terms of:
a. Reseller capabilities
1. add/remove accounts
b. Subdomains
1. add/remove subdomains for domains
c. Add-on functions such as:
1. db control (create/delete/modify)
2. forms, shopping carts, counters, other preinstalled scripts,
etc. that customers may expect.
Cobalt hardware is limited in terms of:
a. RaQ3-4's have 300-450MHz processors (no upgrade possible)
b. 2 RAM slots and max. is 512MB
c. Standard IDE drive (not sure of the speed, but I think it might be 5,400???)
I won't go into buggy patches, slow updates, logging problems...
Now, some add-on scripts can take care of these things (phpmyadmin for example), and others have created add-on cp scripts that pretty much take care of the rest and more, but the hardware is one issue that gets many people. They just aren't the most powerful beasts on the planet, and the XTR's are priced a bit too high, so you won't see them as much.
They surely aren't the ideal machine for hosting (neither hardware or software), but for a small web design firm, or someone who needs or wants to go to the next step after virtual hosting and doesn't want to use VPS, then they are rather wonderful. I've owned one, and leased another and I can't say it was horrible (MUCH better than the reseller plans I was considering). As I said, you seemed to know the good, so this is ONLY the bad.
I'd be happy to elaborate on any point (that I can) about them good or bad.
