I searched around a bit and didnt find a good answer to this so I posted a thread, if its in the wrong place im sorry.

A new client would like to host an e-book website which sells them on.

Is it legal?

I guess it would depend on if they have been given permission to sell the e-books by the copyright owners of the e-books. I think you are confusing e-books with Warez E-Books

E-books are fine as long as they have re-sell rights

What do you mean? They created the e-book, or are giving away e-books for free that were created by someone else?

If they made the ebook or the ebook was purchased with resell rights then it is completely legal and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I see everybody is claiming their ebook have resell right,
but how can we tell the ebook comes with resell right?

It is impossible.
One of the packages these guys are selling is already like hundreds of ebooks.....they sell em in packages.
If you want to check each ebook one by one, I wish you all the best.

I concur with Roy, but if you have an extra 20 minutes, maybe try Googling the titles or some such... see if you can find any challenges or suits. If it's an ebook, there's a good chance that such a suit would be published (or at least mentioned!) somewhere online.

If you can show some effort in research I would think it would at least show some due diligence on your part, e.g., CYA. :)

Even if it is possible do you think it is worth the effort?
The smartest solution is to get the list of the ebook titles and paste in in some ebook forums and ask them if they see any illegal ones.

Never underestimate the combined power of ebook junkies.
