View Full Version : ModernBill or Ubersmith?
Fremont Servers 12-20-2001, 10:49 PM I need to purchase client manage/billing script asap.
I want to hear which one do you recommend.
If you recommend other scripts, please post the script and url.
I'd have to cast my vote for MB.
Maniac 12-20-2001, 11:50 PM I'm sorry, I didn't know I couldn't post that. I'll remember those rules so I don't get kicked off. Once again, very sorry, please forgive me, it will not happen again. Thank you for understanding..
CRego3D 12-21-2001, 12:56 AM you need to read this http://www.webhostingtalk.com/misc.php?action=forum-rules
CRego3D 12-21-2001, 12:56 AM Havign tested both, I need to cast my vote for MB as well

Following the flow, huh. :stickout
universal2001 12-21-2001, 04:50 AM I have used both and I would say that Ubersmith is DEFINATELY more STABLE. ModernBill is relatively new and has quite a lot of minor bugs...
Their incorrect pro-rated bug caused me nearly $1,000 in lost revenues... I got the fix a few weeks later..
The support with ModernBill is excellent though.. live tech support :)
Modernbill has more features but just lots of minor bugs.. which the developer tries to fix ASAP...

Actually, we been using it for a while now, one of our php programmers is modifying it to work for what we need (colo and dedicated) .. I personally tested Ubersmith before making a decision and I just didn't like it :)
Meridien 12-23-2001, 09:11 PM I vote for MB. I much prefer the software to be mine to alter as I see fit, and I agree that support is very good. They at MB are responsive and are steadily working on the wish list.
Being in software development, minor bugs are inevitable. I would rather have no bugs at all, but the old question remains: Do you want 98% now, or 100% sometime in the future (with no new features)?
smilb 12-23-2001, 10:13 PM I hope I am not breaking any rules by doing this but take a look at http://phpmanager.taysoft.com/ . I have purchased it and am very pleased with it. Has a built-in Ticket System , Billing Functions and account creation using WHM/CPanel. Very cool guys......................But this is just my opion...ya know
Good Luck
gabeosx 12-23-2001, 10:30 PM If you have to chose between the two, I'd say ModernBill simply because Ubersmith is really expensive unless you have tons of clients. I am personally taking the route of developing my own (which I'm making free/open source @ phpisp.int0r.net... hope this isn't breaking any rules ;)) so that I can incorperate the features that I need and save a ton of cash I don't have.
sbrad 12-23-2001, 11:55 PM MB- you get more, and you pay less. A LOT less.
And, as of yesterday, most of the bugs are worked out.
RackMy.com 12-24-2001, 01:58 AM They both look really nice, but I like MB better because you actually own the software.
NetXL 12-24-2001, 02:13 AM I've heard you can buy Ubersmith, I may be wrong but I think it costs $1,600 outright?
smartbackups 12-24-2001, 02:38 AM MB to me is just much more flexible because you get the source and can alter it just the way you need it to work. I wish it had more integration capabilities with Control Panels, but you can't be all things...
Fremont Servers 12-24-2001, 02:44 AM I wonder if they are planning to integrate MB with PLESK. :D

Yes there are future plans to integrate MBill with Plesk, CPanel, and OpenSRS but no ETA on when
