View Full Version : Cpanel server is down?
GD installed ok
rsync: getaddrinfo: rsync.cpanel.net 873: Temporary failure in name resolution
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(83)
Bad arg length for Socket::pack_sockaddr_in, length is 0, should be 4 at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.1/i686-linux/Socket.pm line 373.
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=cpanel.net
PASS Missing Direct Parent check OK. Your direct parent zone exists, which is good. Some domains (usually third or fourth level domains, such as example.co.us) do not have a direct parent zone ('co.us' in this example), which is legal but can cause confusion.
INFO NS records at parent servers Your NS records at the parent servers are:
p.cpanel.net. [69.72.164.150] [TTL=172800] [US]
w.cpanel.net. [69.72.164.153] [TTL=172800] [US]
[These were obtained from g.gtld-servers.net]
PASS Parent nameservers have your nameservers listed OK. When someone uses DNS to look up your domain, the first step (if it doesn't already know about your domain) is to go to the parent servers. If you aren't listed there, you can't be found. But you are listed there, with 2 entries.
PASS Glue at parent nameservers OK. The parent servers have glue for your nameservers. That means they send out the IP address of your nameservers, as well as their host names.
FAIL NS A timeout occurred getting the NS records from your nameservers! None of your nameservers responded fast enough. They are probably down or unreachable. I can't continue since your nameservers aren't responding. .
insiderhosting 07-11-2004, 03:28 AM They are moving their main servers to a new datacenter. I'm sure that they will be online shortly.

Steven 07-11-2004, 03:50 AM there will be no updates tonite.
Arsalan 07-11-2004, 04:54 AM Bad news for us :( we needed to rebuild exim on a server and now cpanel's updates are unaccessable....
dside443 07-11-2004, 05:09 AM It is rather disappointing that cPanel did not have a backup update system or web site in place for this planned event (the DedicatedNow move). Someone who may need to do an emergency update or license renew to make cPanel work at this hour would have trouble.
Arsalan 07-11-2004, 05:32 AM I dont know why they couldent have placed temporary servers in place with just the basic binaries..
BudWay 07-11-2004, 05:41 AM I'm not sure why cpanel does not have a backup re-image of it's files on another DC.
Mayble nocster our burstnet.... They have a good network.
But I'm sure this will be set-up in the future.
neraath 07-11-2004, 05:56 AM Yea, but did anyone hear about this planned move at all? I know I certainly didn't hear about it and it causes pains like when I plan to do an update only to find out their entire host is down. cPanel has some serious issues with letting its customers know when updates are going to happen. Would be helpful if they had some sort of update listerv people could subscribe to...
Arsalan 07-11-2004, 11:10 AM It is still offline :(
Error fetching SOA from p.cpanel.net [69.72.164.150], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline.
Error fetching SOA from w.cpanel.net [69.72.164.153], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline.
0 server(s) are alive
No DNS servers alive, tests stopped
justbenice 07-11-2004, 11:21 AM Tons of server in this world are using cpanel and it work depend alot in cpanel main server ( layer1 and layer2 ) but cpanel.net dont have backup server when they moving datacenter . Ditto, you'd think they would have LEARNED after the Nocster/Burst fiasco, or the fire @ pwebtech. Guess not ehh.

See above statement:
Originally, CPanel servers were with Burst/Nocster, however they moved for a number of reasons, primarily being that their network was down for extended periods of times and customers were complaining like mad. Nocster / Burst is NOT a "good network", read the outage forums, you'll see.
I think we're probably about to see CP move yet again after the unprofessionality of this move. At the very least they'll pick up a second server (or set of servers) elsewhere. If not, that's their own fault.
It's sad when unprofessional organizations like this affect unsuspecting users. This can't be placed wholely on CPanel, but on their provider as well, as their provider should have had this move handled hours ago.
kimpossible 07-15-2004, 12:28 PM I could almost feel for them. Almost. No redudancy in this day and age? I'd be swinging from the end of a rope if that happened to our customers.
By the same token, it's the 15th, I'm still getting an "Timeout while trying to fetch layer1.cpanel.net/buildapache.rc...There was an error while fetching layer1.cpanel.net/buildapache.rc"
How much do you want to bet I still have to pay for my cpanel leases this month?
kimpossible 07-15-2004, 01:05 PM [sorry - edit time expired]
I noticed one of my backup servers on a backup link in a disaster recovery center could see layer1. Which got me to thinking. ;)
I pinged it and it was pinging 69.72.164.150 instead of 216.118.116.106 like the other servers were trying for. "Hmmm. NS updates haven't trickled out?"
I crammed the 69 addr into the hosts file, and voila! Rebuilding Apache.
Just a note in case anyone else needs to get to it in a hurry and can't yet see the NS.
a.harris 07-17-2004, 03:59 PM Is anyone having problems with the current cPanel "universal" installation script?
Tried it on multiple OS's in the last two days with the same errors. Got some nice quick, completely unhelpful, responses from cPanel... however they have now not replied in many an hour.
There is of course no backup of the install files, accessible to either customers or their "technical support team".
Very aggravating.
a.harris 07-17-2004, 04:01 PM A note to the previous post regarding cPanel informing clients. There was a period of about 2-3 months when they setup their information mailing list for partners/distributors.
However they appear to have stopped using that. At least, we havn't received an email from them in a long while.
