Overall which of these would be the best choice to go with when buying a Dual Xeon? I am looking for speed and reliability.

I'd say The Planet their higher spec servers are quality.

Id say The Planet, they now have 15,000Mbps connectivity from 10 different carriers and most importantly none of it is from Cogent!

Also thier staff are very helpful and their network has been ultra stable for me :)

ServerMatrix gets my vote.

I have a TCS from the planet and am very happy with it, had a couple of problems (dodgy firewall) but they were quick to respond and fix it.

I must say TP, SM are best choice for dedicated. At EV1, I have a terrible time with many downtime and hardware problems.

Thanks SM and TP for quality services.

GNAX hands down. Support is fast, the network is rock solid no down time in over a year, 100mbps ports, APC reboots. I have dual xeons and dual opterons there and they great.

I have servers with all 3 providers. Gnax is a smaller company but they get my vote.

1. Gnax ... But they give less b/w.
2. ThePlanet .. 2nd best..
3. EV1

Hope this helps.

I have a webhosting server (1 out of 5) hosted at ev1. I've been with them for almost a year now with 0 downtime, I've needed support twice and received answers very quickly, I even had a few ips added within an hour of my request. They even block DoS attacks :P

my vote goes to.. superbservers.net

I know that it isnt in the list. I use all the companys listed here, and superb is the best ( at least for me ).

Agreed. I think that anyone that have or had servers with the 3 providers (my case) will confirm that GNAX is a better option.

In over 2 years at EV1 (5 servers now) almost never have a downtime..

I can remember 15min a years ago then recently (1 month ago) the UPS problem that put 1 of my servers down for around 1h...

If you call this terrible downtime...

i'm Still happy at ev1..

GNAX; they might be a bit smaller but they are the best in my book.

I'd go with Server Matrix over EV1. We had hardware problem on top of hardware problem with Ev1 for months on end and they kept saying it wasn't the hardware so after the 20th reboot ticket in 25 days we had them stick the HD in another server and it ran flawlessly for the next month and a half. (Note: we had run memtest, and had also had the EV1 techs test the hardware after our memtest crashed repeatedly. They said the memory was fine and that memtest just crashes randomly; whether or not this is true I don't know.) However; after close to 5 months of on and off server downtime we couldn't risk the faulty hardware issue anymore so we switched to Server Matrix and haven't had a problem yet.

I've never used GNAX so I can't comment on them.

I agree with you, EV1 has more hardware issues than Servermatrix. I am glad that I have cancelled 3 servers with them...still have one to cancel though :D...

Between GNAX and EV1 however, GNAX hands down, no question.

Could somebody fill me in? On GNAX it only shows resellers for their dedicated servers. So how is gnax responsible for the uptime, support, etc.?
The resellers ran the gamut & some had really lame packages where you could really select no options.
There was no link so I just did a search but it looks like the same company. I don't get it.

Tranxactglobal = GNAX.

Ran by the same people.

Their reseller transactglobal is really gnax... I'm pretty sure.

Also, Gnax is responsable for the support and uptime because they are the ones who own the network... As far as support.... They are usually talking in reference to Transactglobal (who IS gnax... and you get gnax's support).

Techark

Tranxactglobal.com is GNAX go there and you are ordering a server direct from the data center. If you want some extra value added support then you can look at one of their resellers.

Very interesting conversation ... but ...

Could someone just list down why Gnax is better or The Planet is better .. ? Specific points ?

Well - at ev1servers you're more of a number than a person - their first solution to nearly any problem is reinstall the OS. That gets tiresome. Oh your server is crashing? reinstall the OS. Apache seg faulting? reinstall the OS. Mail not spooling? reinstall the OS. At GNAX you're more of a person than just another in a list of 1000's of customers and you can sometimes actually get them to LOOK at a problem rather than just formatting everything. Again I have no experience with theplanet so I can't comment on their services.

ev1 is solid, their support is better than SM's. prices are a bit higher tho.

Good points:

The Planet: Super network and uptime, quick friendly and helpful staff, good prices, you're more of an individual that a statistic, they're willing to work with you on any problems or special requests you have.

GNAX: (only had a virtual account there so can't comment on their support), but when my host had a problem it was sorted fairly quickly. Their network is good, and uptime was good too.

EV1: ummm.... their website has yellow on it and I like yellow? :P

I would say GNAX. The support team is nice, and there has only been about 3 minutes downtime in the entire time I've used them (other than a hard drive in one of my boxes going caput after only a few months). Rock solid network, and no Cogent either! :D

Here is my experience....

GNAX... Never used them, no experience

ServerMatrix (The Planet)... Have one server with them since April 2004, no problems to report. The very few times I had to use tech support they replied in a rapid manner.

EV1 Servers... Been with them since mid 2000. (EV1, then RackShack, then EV1Servers) I did have a old RaQ couple of years ago that the HD crash on me. They where on top of that and actually made a total restore for me. Had the server back up within 15 hours. Saved me a lot of hassle. Other than that, I have no other major issues. My Trouble Tickets alway's answered on time and they solved my problems. Called on the phone many times with no complaints. My servers have been working great. Maybe I have been lucky, or the others have been unlucky, dont know. I personally havent seen the troubles others have had with EV1.

I also use Cheetaweb to help me look after my servers. Great service.

tranxactglobal do also offer 2000 GB Bandwidth, but when you go to their order page, all Dual Xeons are missing.

I had servers in the past at GNAX, Very fast network and fast support. I had a few billing issues with them but they were eager to resolve them and correct them all. I currently have my servers at The Planet. I would have never gave up my servers at GNAX but my clients wanted a more central location. Sofar i havent had any problems with The Planet. The Planets network is fast as well, not sure about support, havent needed to use it yet. Im not sure about EV1 these days , I had servers there back when they were RackShack and had alot of problems with latency.

The thread starter is no longer with us but since others are asking the same questions we will let the thread continue for awhile.

Archertech

Points of each..

Servermatrix/theplanet is good but they are getting a little large and growth is getting hard to handle IMO. If you submit a ticket you must make a phone call to follow it up or it takes forever to get answered. If the first level techs can't handle it then you have to wait for them to conact a 2nd level tech and that can sometimes take a little while and you are not alowed to talk direct to the 2nd level techs they have to do it for you. Heard a few stories about servers being unplugged by the abuse dept and then questions asked later. Do a search on here you will see a few threads where it has happend.

GNAX/tranxactglobal. They answer tickets fast and the phone both. I personally have a good relationship with the techs there, know them by name and they know me. They are always fast and effiecent at answering questions and working with me if I need something extra. Never have to wait for them to kick it up to a level 2 tech etc they handle it. No request I have made has ever been turned down. Never heard of GNAX shutting down a server without notice and they have ALWAYS worked with me to help find an abuser.

Both networks are rock solid and fast.

I have used servermatrix for a couple of servers for about 8 months now.

I have used GNAX for over 3 years have both servers I lease and racks with my own servers there.

EV1 I have never used, but I have read enough horror stories here about pulled servers etc I could not go there.

I've actually had a few spammers in my days and EV1 gave me plenty of time to track them down and deal with it. I've had EV1 servers for 2 years now with not a single minute of downtime that I've noticed.

ThePlanet/SM seems to have a good reputation, and I've never heard of gnax. I'll definately be checking them out after these positive reviews. I'll most likely be grabbing servers from both in addition to EV1, I like to have variety. :D

i second that theplanet support is really slow. most tickets are answered in 1 day, when the issue has already been fixed :(

Yeah almost all of these "ohmygodev1pulledmyserverI'msomad" threads you see when you hear "both sides" you usually understand WHY it was pulled.

My main complaint with EV1 is they will not spend much time troubleshooting, any sort of problem and they're ready to re-image. That gets frustrating. Gnax in my experience will at least give lip service to trying to figure out WHY something is crashing rather than immediately grabbing the Redhat CD's and formatting stuff.

after reading all the positive comments i just visited gnax since i am just looking for renting a new server.

but unfortunately they seem to be targeted for low-budget customers only
their hardware looks out of date and underequiped
so in my opinion they are competition for servermatrix, but unfortunately they have nothing what can compeate with theplanets tc-servers. :(

Look at http://www.tranxactglobal.com/dedicatedservers.php - How is that not competition for TP's TC servers?
