Hi,
I've recentlly made a new web site (http://GeekTraveller.com/) aimed at people who travel with laptops and/or digital cameras which allows people to submit their own experiances. I'm having a bit of trouble getting people to add laptop-friendly internet cafe's in their area, and I am woundering how they can be encouraged. My idea last night was to make it a competition and give some prize money to a randomly selected submission but I'm not sure if it will help.
I'd like to start advertising it, and I would be asking for advice on that - but there's just not really enough to advertise yet.
Thanks,
Will.

This does seem like a hard target market. Unless people have an experience (or an incentive like you mentioned) its often hard to get that going.
You may just have to begin adding your own entries by searching the web. Once you find one, you can add it, then email the site and let them know they were added. Ask if they would like to modify their listing. If they put a link on their site to you, you could give them a little preferential treatment. Maybe their listing goes on top or something. Y
For their site, you could try giving them a button or graphic thatsays "Part of the Geek Traveler Network" or something like that.
Good luck.

Yes, maybe you should add compatibility for places such as Starbucks T-Mobile hotspot reviews around certain areas, or Border/B&N. You know what I mean? Try to expand into a couple different subject areas that deal with the whole "traveling laptop user" concept.
Otherwise pretty neat site :)

Thanks for the tips.
I've got this morning free so I'm trying to find places in Australia to add. It's not easy (hence the reason for the site!) but I've found a few. I feel that once I have a few to make the site a worthwile place to visit, people will start to share their own experiances.
The site currently is equiped to handle wireless locations, however something like Starbucks where the details are identicle and only the location differers I guess it can't really handle. I have had someone email me about Starbucks too. Do you know if it's a worldwide thing, or just USA? Is it all the cafe's or only selected ones. It's a good idea - I just havn't heard of it in Australia.
Cheers,
Will.

Contact the people at http://www.didjworld.com I am sure they can give some tips or leads. That is one internet cafe here in Darwin that I know allows laptops, but there are quite a few internet cafes here because of the overseas tourists and backpackers, so the guys at didjworld could probably steer you in the right direction :)

the best thing is simply content the more you have the more the search engine will pick it up, so hence more visitors.
