Whats the best way to get a line drawing from a photo? I 've seen some but they are not much good. Any recommendations?

You can try the autotrace feature in Illustrator, but this tends to be spotty. Much better is to hunker down and trace elements of the photo by hand. A quick search should come up with a couple good tutorials on how to do this best. I'm not particularly good at it myself (I've had very little need to do bitmap --> vector conversion), but what little I've done I've found to go pretty quickly.

Hi The, I was thinking of Photoshop using the filters. Thanks for that though.

ackk! Filters are the devil! lol j/k....but a Photoshop user knows to stay away from them! Anything more than a Gaussian blur is too much!

I suggest using Illustrator and the trusty pen tool :) Quite easy and quite fast but of course it takes practice I suppose. I know after using it for a while it became easier. Depending on the person, it could take about 15-30min for a simple outline drawing of a subject...then maybe a few more hours to add details to achieve an uncanny likeness. But that is just my opinion :)

it depends for me. people use the filter stroke, i don't quite like it.

most of the time i just use the pen tool. :)

I use Photoshop Elements 2 and i think the filters are pretty cool , but i don't use them cause there is really no need for most of them. I like the lighting effects one though. I found it hard to get good pixel effects from ps so i used paint for version 7 of my website (hanger12design.com)
