Okay, maybe I'm a nerd, but we're closing shop for four hours tomorrow while we all (as if there's more than three of us) go see the matinee showing of "Lord of the Rings".

Here's the question, do we put it on our site, under announcements?

ANNOUNCEMENT: No one is currently available to take your calls or email, as we are seeing bilbo on the big screen. :)

Call it a "Christmas social function" and you'll be fine :)

Yes, true. Actually, I was thinking that when I wrote it but just thought I'd stick with "Christmas". But I'm glad I'm not the only one so pedantic about such things. ;)

Make sure you put, "Gone to see Bilbo on the big screen",
and not mistakenly put
"Gone to see Bimbo on the big screen.";)

LOL!

Anyway, I got four calls forwarded to my vibrating cell phone while I was trying to enjoy the movie. All from the same customer. Actually three from him, and one from his "web designer" son. They claimed that their site was down and that they couldn't check their POP accounts.

The movie was three hours long, did you know that?

Anyway, three hours later, nothing in the logs to indicate that their site or email was ever down. Everything has been completely green as far back as midnight. I bet that they couldn't get to microsoft's web site either. Aargh. I haven't called them back yet, and don't know that I will. I don't feel the need to call back someone that says "...Call me now!" in my voicemail. The one day that we all get away, I have to have customers freaking out.

Anyway, the movie was okay. Because it's going to be a continuing story, you can't really expect it to end with something profound. It is neat that they made the hobbits look short with camera effects and children for far away shots. There was only one scene where it didn't look that great. I personally never read the books, but I saw the animated movies. This was better. There was no lousy folk music. The ending was too long, in my opinion. Once you realize where they're going to end it, they spend half an hour doing it. Out of the three of us, two thumbs up. One maybe.

I read all the books - many times.

I just saw the movie and loved it.

Was it 100% true to the book? No. I did not expect it to be. The changes were acceptable to me in the name of the movie.

I was in awe over the way they set up the shots to make things look in perspective for the different heights of the people. It's even more amazing when you actually know how large the actors really are! Truly a masterpiece of film mechanics here. I see Academy Awards for film making mechanics at least.

It ended where book one ended - no surprise there. Anti-climactic? I suppose. The book is too...it leads you right into reading "The Two Towers."

"Let's go hunt some orcs."

My only regret is that they don't plan on releasing #2 till next Christmas - even though they filmed all three at the same time!

Ha! You nerd-wanna-be. We might have to revoke your geek status.

I got my ticket last week. :D

Actually, it didn't. This movie goes into the beginning of Two Towers. Would have surprised me if several of my co-workers hadn't gone to midnight showings last night. My boss actually saw a midnight showing last night and then saw it again at 10am (she took the day off). I didn't see it until after work today.

PS Did anyone see this hack at MIT (http://hacks.mit.edu/Hacks/by_year/2001/the_one_ring/) the other day?
I wish someone had told me about it while it was still up (I work right by MIT).

Turns out the customer that called during the movie got himself added to the firewall because they scanned us for codered vulnerabilities. He admitted that they had an infected machine, and they use NAT, behind one public IP. So they got blocked. I guess we might need to rethink this dynamic fire wall rules thing. But it has been helping a LOT with the codered/nimbda thing.

Well I made it so that they can never be blocked again.
