Uptime? 2. Is software provided initially up-to-date 3. If there are problems, do they respond quickly or charge for chatting with them? Also this is a strange question, but what is the actual difference between a managed and an unmanaged server:P I understand that a managed server means that there's someone to take care of things server side, but what on earth do they actually do. If a server comes with linux/apache/mysql/php/cgi etc + plesk installed... what kind of problems would one run into that would require somebody to manage the server? zinet 07-07-2004, 12:58 AM True server management means that, your server kernel and software is updated on a regular basis, your server is checked for security holes, when you need a custom script installed there is someone to install it for you, etc.. If you install a control panel like Plesk (or any other control panel) you will eventually run into a situation that will require you to use the shell. An experianced linux user who provides good server management may be able to fix the problem in minutes, while a user who only knows how to use the web based interface may be in deep trouble. If you do not know anything about linux I would recommend that you learn or get a fully managed server. Arsalan 07-07-2004, 09:19 AM cyong, cPanel based servers are not that hard to fix. So if you get one, it shouldent be that much of a hastle. I cant say much about Plesk since we havent tested it on UNIX. Regarding server4u, I have heard good things about them. Try a search on the forums :) |
