View Full Version : Yet Another Competition.....

Hello,
I'm needing a new design for http://www.paradise-designs.net/ I have been trying to get around to making it myself but things keep coming up I get more clients and more clients in web design and hosting and don't have the time to do it myself at this present time. If anyone can come up with something professional with or without Flash. I would want to beable to display the plans like on the side. . For those that are web desginers know how it is when you are busy. The winner will either recieve a 2 GIG Reseller package with 20 Gigs of bandwidth or 1 gig with 15 gigs of bandwidth. Now I do like http://uc.nine-one.net/hostcaters/ . Now you will beable to host unlimited domains and have access to the Web Hosting Manager. Navigations is going to be a bit different so put Menu 1 etc etc. Then the winning design I will tell the person the navigation. . So Have Fun Designing and Best of Luck to all those that are submitting to win :). You will win either reseller plan for a year or longer depending on how good the design is :) The contest ends Jan 4,2002. If the contest term is to short I can extend it if I have to. If ya need another week let me know. These links are for you to get a idea of something. I also liked the winning one for Splash Host. People don't copy these exactly just look at the way they're setup and brain storm!. Ooh yea Did I forget to mention the 2 Gig package is a $599.40 value. \PLEASE Don't Use the Slogan If you Dream it We can Build it!

Tim,

After trying to design a layout for Splash Host in a week, it's not enough time for *original* design work. I have some images that'll match the Paradise theme, but to edit them and to make a one-of-a-kind site it just can't be done in a week (holiday season or not). Pixel work is very time consuming as you might know.

If you want original art work extend the time. :)

Chris

TimPD
12-19-2001, 09:37 PM
I think we can extend a 2 week. So there is 2 weeks since Hoildays. I'm trying to get away from the Paradise look . That look there now is paradise. But people can try :).

Thanks, Tim. So when exactly will the deadline be?

Have some quite colorful paradise images which, with some editing, can really make your site stand out.

My question for you is: which is more important to highlight - web hosting or photo repair? Each have a different customer base and needs.

Chris

TimPD
12-19-2001, 10:13 PM
our main focus is web hosting and web development. The deadline will be whenever I decide it . The 4th I believe would be the deadline . That is two weeks. Let me see what you can come up with paradise pictures or non :).

Tim is your site down? I can't look at your pricing guide to see your plans to add to the layout. :( If it's down can you PM me the plans and prices?

Saw that you don't want the dream byline too. What I did with it you might be pleased. Fits perfectly with the paradise graphic I spent hours editing.

Another question: What's your max size limit? So far I got this layout down to 50kb without graphic text (88kb with mega text). The layout is so chromatic now it looks like a print brochure the big companies would drool over. :)

Okay Tim here's a very messy layout copy of what I'm working on. *Be warned that nothing in this layout is finished - major work still needs to be done to the images.* I use ImageStyler to layout elements much like people use GoLive and FrontPage (but it's easier with IS) - so the horizontal/vertical bars seen in the image are for layout/sizing only.

Like I said this is a custom job with everything either edited specifically for your site, or was created by hand. Even the clouds were edited pixel-by-pixel so they'd blend in. The server's detail is so fine that the gradient lighting is even clear on this compressed image (no it's not a photo). When finished this will be a print quality site.

Details: Front template size is 760x432 (so it will fit even within AOL @ 800x600). Banner height is 60 pixels. Left and right panels are 232x340 each. Bottom navigation bar is 740x28. Font sizes are between 13 to 16pts. Plans/Pricing will go on the right panel. There's room for about 5 entries (or 3 with room on top or bottom for a live support link or whatever button(s).

Hope this will generate some interest with fellow designers, and they'll join in a friendly competition - love a challenge. :)

Just a few observations. I think I like this better. TimPD does not comment on his preference so far. He simply accepts the design and hopefully will comment on his final decision as to what design he has chosen to be the winner.

Nevertheless, I am afraid our designers are quite busy now. We will join if we still have the time. We still prefer one entry per contestant. Now, no argument please. That is still just our opinion.

Good luck guys! Of course the best will naturally come out as the winner. But, no hard feelings. The final decision will still depend on TimPD. Have fun everyone.

:)

Some constructive critisism for the guy above me ^

Design your site so it resizes for 1024x higher screensizes
Use a different font
Use image files for buttons (since your using a side bar nav)
Flash would be better for sliding animation

Thats 'my' opinion. you may ignore it :D i'm bored..

Thanks!

Here's my WOW entry (and the perfectionist in me still wants to tweak it - especially the right panel), but a deadline is a deadline.

The text on the bottom of the page is for reference only, to show how much room is still available for text/images. There's space below the nav bar for copyright/update info.

Except for the stock photo of the lady, all images are original. All elements in this example are customizable (for the eagle eyed, one can see the branding on the coax and servers).

If text will be HTML the file size can be reduced by 20+kb, further reducing file loading time. To reduce file size even more just the top panel and nav bar (both under 30kb) would do.

Once again, thanks for the competition, Tim. Some really nice entries!

The right panel is where I hit a snufu. Had to cram the hosting packages into it, stress the importance, and also balance the other server. I compensated with giving the text area in the center some "breathing room."

The perfectionist in me would love to edit the right panel more, but a deadline is a deadline.

You're correct it's busy, but luckily the images can be edited to customer's specifications.

One thing is for sure, Cactus you're prolific. Don't know if anyone at WHT can turn out pages as fast as you can!

Think Tim was leaning towards hosting (which I didn't know about until starting the layout and had to switch the focus). With PD changing their format midstream it did make designing a layout more difficult. Either way, it was fun.

Wishing you more success the next time. :)
