View Full Version : Yahoo Is Better Then Google
Postmaster 07-06-2004, 11:02 AM Ok here goes, Yahoo is better then google.. I think everyone should realise and stop using google lol...
I've made 2 websites in my whole life!
first one never came up in google even after searching for the keywords that should have led to my site never appeared in the search list of 100s of page but still manages to be in the top 5 of Yahoo and included in there directorys.
Second site is not even indexed by google even tho when the previous owner owned the site it was! and it even has a popularity of 150 links of sites that google has indexed! But it is in the top 8 in yahoo for the key word "Greek Dating" which is premium.
What the heck is going on? Google is crap! I use google all the time it is second nature of me to use that search engine but to be honest I never have as effective results as when I look on yahoo and I can always remember that being the case.. Yahoo will always bring me the pages I'm looking for! I work hard on my sites and both of them don't have any advertisment on them or affiliates...
Can anyone explain why SeekaGreek.com that is 8th on Yahoo for the word greek dating but not even indexed by google? Is this an injustice to my hard work as a webmaster for the effort I put into developing the internet? I have never even advertised and my dating site is free...
How search engines should be www.Yahoo.com If you ask me it was the media that made google what it is today we are all brain washed into thinking google is somesort of state of the art searching, if you ask me it rubbish. www.google-watch.org << this site is an interesting anti-google site and before anyone thinks anything I'm not affiliated with Yahoo in anyway just abit upset with google and there monopoly and why I need them so much but brush me under the carpet.
Postmaster 07-06-2004, 11:27 AM actually I made a mistake I'm 7th in yahoo not 8th and I also want to point out that google turned me down for adsense because apparently my site is underconstruction when clearly this is not the case!!! I emailed them back twice to explain its not with no reply... Why do they hate me?
the_pm 07-06-2004, 12:07 PM Agreed. Yahoo is better. As of recent months, they have indexed quicker and returned results have been more accurate. One day I'll dig up some of my old Google rants and spew them out here if anyone gives a crap. Suffice it to say Postmaster, the_pm give you a big "amen."
blackdog 07-06-2004, 02:01 PM well google is paying for my college so i really can't complain :D
Postmaster 07-06-2004, 02:14 PM wow some exelent news I'd like to share with you guys is that yahoo has placed me at no.3 place for "greek dating"
I'm glad that you agree with me on that the_pm... I know alot of people are making afew $$ off google and fair enough.. But the fact of the matter is they need to get there act together especially with wanting to sell shares, my advice would be to keep away from buying shares but milk them for all there giving you from adsense lol

Considering they have 4,285,199,774 web pages, you think they would change ONE just for you? think if everyone's was messed up, or 1/2, 2,000,000,000 e-mails a day.
Postmaster 07-06-2004, 02:43 PM It said on the email that I should reply to it if anything has changed with my site, so I did.. But obviously nothing changed because they got there facts wrong of which is a stupid mistake to make if you ask me.. How on earth do they think my website is underconstruction? I think the staff are too busy roller skating and playing arcade games and who knows maybe alittle bit of a smoke if you know what I mean... and for thoughs that havent heard in the media thats what google employs do at work (apparently to create a happy atmosphere).. I know I seem byest when I talk, this isn't really about them not indexing my site compared to yahoo but the fact that everyone thinks google is superior to all other searchs when they are clearly not... Also they might have 4,285,199,774 web pages but they dont all aply for adsense and not all at the same time. Google is making money out of adsense so you expect a service of communications for it anyway...
HostBreak 07-06-2004, 03:19 PM well i think both are good :) because both have different strategies accordnig to their rules or whatever they have assigned...
alwaysconfused 07-06-2004, 03:31 PM I like google just because its faster and more simple to use. Yahoo I think has a bit better service and has more practical sites more times than others. -IMO Confused

What the heck is going on? Google is crap! Why? Looking at the search results for "greek dating," I see that the top ten sites are perfectly relevant and are likelty to satisfy a user who searches for that term. That is and should be Google's goal.
Actually I'd say their results are better than Yahoo's, where the number one result is dating.about.com -- a user searching the term "greek dating" would probably want results relevant to both of those words: a page about dating within the Greek community, not a generic page simply on dating... right?
Of course the first reaction of a webmaster whose page isn't well ranked is that there's something wrong with the search engine's algorithms. But which seach engine is "best" can only be judged by how well they meet the needs of vistors making searches, not on whether they get any individual's pages ranked instead of some other individual's pages that are just as relevant.
And so Google and Yahoo now have different algorithms. Isn't that a good thing to those who like you are concerned about Google's "monopoly?" If they both returned exactly the same results that would in effect make the "monopoly" even worse.
Today I was installing mediawiki for the first time and upon a successful installation, got the following when I went to the index page:
[pear_error: message="failed to open stream: Operation not permitted” code=0 mode=return level=notice prefix="” info=""]
Being a non programmer, I had no idea what that was and how to solve it, so I used this keyword:
pear_error: message="failed to open stream
and googled. The very first result led me to the answer.
Now if I yahoo the same, the site having the answer is no where in the top 20 (perhaps not even in the results list, didn't bother to check beyond the first 20).
So you tell me which is better now. Google bailed me out of such troubles many times, it simply works and works elegantly.
alwaysconfused 07-06-2004, 03:56 PM lol I guess google is favored as much as yahoo here. It seems to be mixed feelings. I would still go with google. (it still hasnt even picked my site up though) =( -Confused
Postmaster 07-06-2004, 04:50 PM JayC that was nicley said and I agree.... On a personal level I find Yahoo has bought me back the better results.
stripeyteapot 07-06-2004, 05:26 PM Like with everything, there isn't a better "whatever" but the best for you. Funy how often that phrase comes up, especially on boards like these.
I prefer google, I stopped using Yahoo a long time ago, although I have yet to search with their new engine in action.
cmw6988 07-06-2004, 05:42 PM You can always submit your site for the google bot http://www.google.com/addurl.html
Postmaster 07-06-2004, 06:01 PM I recommend you give it ago very much improved..

Google recently made changes to the algo that detect when a domain changes hands. So when you purchase a domain or a domain expires, the new buyer doesn't benefit from the backlinks acquired by the previous owner. Google Guy was talking about how this technology was going to be implimented soon and that was in march. now, when you look at domains that are pending delete, they all have pr0 and no backlinks. so I'd say that it has already been implimented.
edit: I just looked at your site. you have the phrase "greek dating" twice in the text on your homepage. and you're not using it in the anchor text in your sig. thats another reason you don't rank highly.
Postmaster 07-07-2004, 05:34 AM Thats not fair because what if the previous owner gets hold of the domain again? The owner shouldn't effect the rank of the domain but its content and link popularity because if the new onwer doesn't live to the standards of the old owner then soon enough the link popularity would go down in a natural manner.. Also I don't understand what you mean by this

Well the point of the change to the google algo is to stop spam from showing up in the SERPs. Google is basically like a complicated voting system. when you link to a site, you are casting a vote. you are telling google that you think that site is usefull. But then that site changes hands... the owner makes the site however he/she wants it... suddenly the site you 'voted' for no longer exists. now its a page that has a bunch of keyword spam text, and then the page redirects to a site selling viagra.
As for what I said before, if you want to get ranked highly for a competitive keyword, you better have that keyword all over your site! google isn't smart enough to figure out what your site is about, you need to tell it!

Totally true, That's when copywriting comes in handy...
Postmaster 07-08-2004, 06:06 AM I see.... but why hasn't it even indexed me? I type seekagreek in google and my page isnt in there, its been a month since I've had the site now..

He means that you're saying google is no good just because your own rankings are not as good as you'd like, but without having done everything you can to improve them, like including your top key words/phrase more often in your site and also in links back to your site such as your signature.
It's like saying you don't like a certain type of food without having tasted it properly :)
Postmaster 07-08-2004, 08:48 AM I get it noww
CClub 07-11-2004, 12:29 PM Google has bailed me out on many occasions for whatever reason im searching. If it doesn't help then try yahoo. :)
Postmaster 07-11-2004, 06:25 PM I'm not sure sure if Msn's new search engine is in use yet but I found a link that takes you to the beta version ages ago and was suprised to see how many pages of your site they index! Microsoft does not like staying below anyone and it wouldn't supirse me if they come out with something special if they already haven't...
DukeHeartThrob 07-12-2004, 06:03 PM Google's so far been great to our credit counseling site. Although, I must admit we are higher ranked on Yahoo. But just think: for every spot you're not on top in Google someone else is, so it's working great for them (and not you). So who's to say who's better just because of your ranking?
Yahoo has better results in my keywords, but I like to use Google for my searches.
