I'm going to need to be able to accept creditcards from clients and I'd like to know the best way to do that. Thanks in advance!

Try Authorize.net they work well...

Authorize.net is a gateway provider and you can not purchase the software directly through them. If you want to use authorize.net you need to get a merchant account with a company that supports the authorize.net gateway.

Even though their web site looks like crap, we love ECHO, at www.echo-inc.com

We've been using them since 1997.

They just redid their page a couple of months back. I don't think its that bad. It did look like crap before though. I have echo as well and they have been good to me.

If you in the US take a merchant account.
If you are outside the US consider worldpay.com as your 3rd party processor.
If you do not want to spend a lot of money try ccnow.com

Have a great day :)

I am currently in the same boat and have been looking at Cardservice.com and Merchantexpress.com. It is very difficult being able to determine which offering is the best and even more difficult to be able to compare the different offerings as an apples to apples.

Right now I'm leaning towards Merchant Express. I'll post here and let you all know how it turns out and why! ;)

Take care,

Mac

Best Merchant Service? That's like asking what the best car service is. Or what the best Host is or whatever. I think they are all suited to different people's needs.

I agree with netsolutions. There is no "best". There are so many factors to think about. Here's a list of a few I know of. Make sure you look at ALL of them to find one that suits your needs the best:

Third-Party:

www.2checkout.com
www.revecom.com
www.ibill.com
www.ccnow.com
www.billcc.com
www.ccbill.com
www.paypal.com
www.websitebilling.com

Merchant Accounts:

www.sfcommerce.com
www.echo-inc.com
www.charge.com

I don't have experience with all of these companies, but most or all of them have been mentioned on the board so check them out and find what works for you.

Pardon me folks for not implying that I am searching for the best merchant service that best fits my needs.

It all of a sudden feels like it's getting warmer in here!

In other words the one that is not outrageously priced, has reliable service, and excellent customer support.

In your alls opinion there is a best one that is suited for your needs and that should be the one you have chosen and are with today. An that is all I was looking for.

In your opinion there may not be a best car service but there are surely ones that I would not take my car to!

It is strictly a matter of opinion and I realize that and that is what I was looking for was your opinions!

Now, that being said has anyone had experience with either Merchant Express or Cardservice? And what did you think of them?

As stated before when I find the one that best fits my needs I will post it as promised and why I chose that one.

Cheers,

Mac

That's a pretty broad statement. Narrow it down a bit. Like are you looking for a 3rd party processor?

You company's name shows up on the statement (it's a real merchant account).

I have used echo-inc before and they are the cheapest merchant account provider I've ever seen. However I should mention that most billing software doesn't support echo-inc. But they do have Echo NET which allows you to manually enter credit card numbers.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use billcc. They are the most unreliable, terrible company ever. We racked up 1,000s of $ and than we find out that they don't even have a merchant account to process orders of any of their customers. After they got a new merchant account, they email us out of the blue and say that it is their policy to get signatures on every sale. Being a webhosting company, its rather tedious to get signatures for all of these orders. My associate emailed them and told them it was impossible for us to get these and if they continued practices like this that they would go out of business. A week later we recieved an email from them telling us they were going out of business.
