:D

The world's longest single word domain name is an actual name of a town in Wales.

" www.Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.com is the longest single word (without hyphens) .com domain name in the world.

... translates as "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave". "

You should read up on some of the other towns that could have held the record had they been able to register. One, in Thailand, has 163 characters.

It used to say "My domain is longer then YOUR domain!"

i was going to get

abcdefghijklmnopqrtuvwxyz-0123456789ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.com

Which would be exactly 63 chars, and uses every possibly character allowed in a domain name ;)

I was going to ask about the longest possible domain, since I knew you guys would have the answer and I found it doing a simple search:

example
these domains are longer by a few letters, there is actually content on each of them:

www.thepersonwithanewideaisacrank-untiltheideasucceeds-by-marktwain.com

;)

www.thelongestdomainnameintheworldandthensomeandthensomemoreandmore.com

I think these 2 domains are the same length in characters as www.11111.... mentioned above.

Is it possible to have a URL with 253 characters? I found this link addressing RFC:

www.schwer.us/journal/2003/10/25/worlds-longest-domain-name/

Longest single word domain name that is not a place name may be:
PNEUMONOULTRAMICROSCOPICSILICOVOLCANOCONIOSIS.INFO

It's listed in whois, but it looks like there is currently no website.

I'm guessing that this "town" you speak of is commonly known as Bangkok. The full name of Bangkok, a.k.a. City of Angels, will run three and a half lines on a typical A4.
