Can someone recommend an eCommerce solution better than XCART (www.x-cart.com) and roughly the same price range?

Thanks

If you want something commercial, I'd take a look at ClickCartPro and SunShop. I ended up with SunShop after evaluating these three. X-Cart has more optional bells and whistles, but ends up costing more. ClickCartPro as actually my favorite, but it is Perl and I wanted a PHP solution.

Yes, SunShop is affordable with small business.

I am very happy with the free, open-source osCommerce shopping cart ( http://www.oscommerce.com ). By browsing the "community" pages and the "contributions" (hundreds of code modifications you can make to add special functionality to your store) you can power virtually any type of store or simple checkout system you want with it.

I vote for ClickCartPro if you can work with a Perl based shopping cart. Check out the features and the ability to cusomize. www.clickcartpro.com

What are the differences between PERL based and PHP based Cart? Are there overwhelming disadvantages to perl as a cart like no one writes perl anymore so I'll never find support?

OSCommerce and Zen Cart are Developer communities. If you are not a developer you won't have an easy time with them.

How is Clickart pro different from SunShop as far as template modification, uploading products, Configuring the Admin Utilities?

How do they compare as far as Technical support? Thanks for your input.

I agree with the comments on OSCommerce, I would use it every time unless you really aren't confident in doing any developing and just want an out of the box solution with support included. The support for OScommerce is excellent but informal.

I have also used X-Cart and it too is a superb product but the philosophy behind it is very different. If you want an out of the box solution then go for it. You will get support with it and the support in my experience was very good.

I would say that oscommerce is easier to use than xcart though, so it is all awings and balances.

I compared Zen Cart and osCommerce. It seems the forum support for OSC is better than Zen Cart but the set up and maintenance is easier for Zen Cart. I just got done installing osCommerce and setting up my template look by modifying the 'stylesheet.css' file.

When I attempted to add a product you can't add the product image except by uploading from your local hard drive. Zen Cart has improved this as with other issues like the Override system Zen Cart has. While Zen Cart allows side table configuration, OSC requires code modification.

I've heard good and bad reports about X-Cart support. They don't provide phone support which would be nice for my $200. Is it easier to set up and maintain than Zen Cart? Prior post says different philosophy. Can I get some details about that? I'm going back to Zen Cart for now.

I agree. Miva is great too but certainly not free.

I was reading a review on pc mag where they talked about some shopping carts and stated Kurant StoreSense the best cart. I can agree that it is pretty nice after trying and testing it out. But the only thing is that it costs an arm and leg every month. Also osCommerce is what i'm trying to work with right now. Kinda having some problems with place attributes to a shoe for sizes and learning how to state quantites for each shoe size. Where are these amazing developer forums?
