Hi All,

Does site5 still have a lot of downtimes as it had few months ago? I really like their packages but the past posts here and on other forums make me a bit anxious. :bawling:

Any input would be greatly appreciated! :)

Al

i recently switched to them due to recomendations on this board. their tech support is good and their packages are nifty. but the server i'm on has been having problems. their other server is peachy farking keen. hardly ever any issues with it.

last note i saw was that they had put some software to detect exactly what the problem is with it if/when the next time it went down, which was yesterday morning. hopefully, this will solve whatever problem they were having. (sorry for the vaugeness there, but i'm not exactly a techie ;)).

i for one am hoping this gets resolved quickly because i switched due to extreme downtime with my last host. i don't want all of my hostees to have to move their stuff again. :)

They are talking about replacing the server with all the issues soon, so if they do that would hopefully fix it.

We don't need ALL the details, do we etLux? ;)

At any rate, we are planning on replacing this server very soon. However, it has been very cooperative over the past few days (I think we've scared it).

The last downtime was on Thursday... and was taken care of in about 20 minutes. The server is under a VERY close watch right now, and will be until the issue is completely resolved.

As always, customers can check our support forums for the latest info on the situation.

Threatening these boxes is often a very effective way to get them to behave.

No kidding. They hear you.

I keep a ten-pound sledgehammer nearby at all times; and hence, rarely have equipment problems.

I've been threatening my boxes since the early 80's .. everything from sledgehammers to country music .. it allways works .. but you do have to leave the house sometimes .. and that's when they rebel !!!

Whenever I leave the building, I leave a CD of Alban Berg's "Wozzeck" on continuous play...

As this sounds rather like Klingon opera, it tends to keep the boxes well reminded of my perspective concerning any failures on their part.

A god idea is to smash an old 486 tower you have and set it up on a table so the other servers can 'see' it. Maybe with a sign, "This could be YOU!" Seeing the dented and mangled beast should keep the others in line.

On those days when I'm feeling particularly mean-spirited (usually the ones that end in 'y'), I slap the whole mess of them onto an auto-transformer, and boost the AC up to 140 or so.

Keeps the buggers reminded of just who's the boss, don't ya know...

I actually found an even better way to deal with the problem .. I now threaten my server that if he doesn't behave .. I'll give him to my mother-in-law ... not a downtime since then ;)

Well now that I have one of my bixes running Linux, I threaten it by saying, "Ill move you to Windows, do you wont that?" And the thing works like a doll. lol

You noticed that? Sometimes a bit of humor allows us to continue on with the exciting world of web hosting. Besides, Matt (site5) started it with his "I think we scared it" comment. :)

To the contrary, this is entirely on topic.

Every host should know how properly to threaten a box.

Did not! :D:D:D

BTW... In case anyone is still wondering about the reliability of Site5 (after all, that is the topic), the problematic server has now been up for 11 days straight, and is showing no signs of slowing down! Just thought I'd throw that out there. ;)

Always good to hear a happy ending.

It tends to shake your confidence when a host reports, "Well, our uptime for the last ten minutes has been almost 99.9%."
