Does anyone here host with Verio?.

I don't know anyone who is but they have been voted best webhost in the uk by Future Publishing who do magazines like - .net , Create for webdesigners and more but those are the two i read.

I'd like to know what the verio service is really like. I send emails to sales and support and never get a reply so hows that make them the best?.

DN was taken over by Verio, so Matt should be able to give us an insight with his experiences of HostInvestigator.

Almost all big webhosting companies pay directories and other media networks to be on the top list or voted. Most of the people who right in NON pc magazines about webhosting don't even know what "webhosting" is.

Digital Nation is owned by Verio, but that doesn't mean that anyone's experiences with DN are relevant to what you might experience with virtual hosting at Verio. They're two different units, two different products, and they have two differing reputaions: DN's is mostly positive, as it was even before Verio purchased them, but Verio's -- judging by what I've seen -- is not.

What Jay says is quite true. I recall reading somewhere that Verio is more a 'conglomerate' of hosting providers, and that you'll get varying service from one to the other. For example, I know the usability experts Jakob Nielsen (http://www.useit.com) and Bruce Tognazzini (http://www.asktog.com) host on best.com, which is part of the Verio outfit, and they've been with them for a long, long time. On the other hand, I've heard some terrible reports from other providers under Verio.

I'm the one who's always reminding people that Verio is an agglomeration of companies they've purchased, and that quality varies widely from host to host. I'm with a reseller of a Verio host (GSP, reselling iServer), service is good but there are occasionally BIG problems within the Verio network and you bounce around endlessly without ever connecting to your server. You can do a tracert and watch the problem.

As for DN, they're listed by spamhaus as a host that supports spam.

Never believe any review from any company that accepts advertising from hosts. PC Magazine just recommended Interland for the second time!! Interland has one of the worst reputations in the business. It's all a matter of money -- you'll never see the smaller hosts that people here recommend most frequently mentioned in any big publication because they don't purchase advertising.

Technics, see the last link in my signature for a looong webpage on the subject of finding a host.

I have a design client hosted on Verio, and in the year or so I've had to update and maintain I haven't had a problem with them. I haven't had to deal with support either which is always the crunch. I have heard Verio's support is right up there with addr.com however (which means almost non-existant), so it's a case of good speed, good uptime, no-one at home if anything does end up going wrong.
