My husband is running a server from home and we just registered the domain, but how do you go about registering a dns server? Thanks!

i think the easiest way would be to use godaddys dns servers, every domain can use them for free...
otherwise click on host summary and create e.g. ns1.yourdomain.com and enter the ip address of the server.... do this with the second one as well. then change the dns server to Custom Servers "ns1./ns2.yourdomain.com"

I heard there was an issue when using your own dns servers for that domain, ie using ns1.domain.com for domain.com. I am not sure if that was just that one guy, or if the issue (if there was one) was resolved or not.

If you do try that bfwdesigns, let us know if it works :)

here is an answer from Godaddy's FAQ (https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/faq/faq.asp?isc=&se=%2B&from%5Fapp=&prog%5Fid=GoDaddy&faq_id=113&topic_id=17&topic=Domains)

Boy could they have made it harder? Most places put a link right out in the open. But not good ol godaddy. Their site is soo cryptic sometimes.

The reason they do is because anyone wanting to clikc a button will click a button. It causes more headaches for them to have it out in the open. Inevitibly the common user will click it, add something and break their domain.

Well, registering a name server wont break anything anywhere anytime. It just cant happen.

Especially since any respectable registrar wont allow you to register name servers for any domain not in your account, it is impossible to break something by simply registering name servers that otherwise did not previously exist.

You're only mentioning one half of this story. If a user has access (Easily found access), they will want to remove their nameservers and use their own. It just makes sense to them, lord knows I've had a lot single domain customers ignore the ns1.mbshost.... and put their own thinking they could. Maybe now the picutre is wide enough.
